Forums - Sony - PS Vita is 'too expensive for most', says Pachter

Sony’s PlayStation Vita is ‘too expensive’ for the most consumers, reckons Wedbush Morgan analyst, Michael Pachter.

Chatting with the folks at VG247, Pachter also suggested that PS Vita’s software library is in need of a boost, and doesn’t see sales picking up until more games are released.

“Vita’s too expensive for most, priced pretty much the same as the PS3 everywhere,” he said. “While I think the Vita is a good value and a great device, when compared to the PS3 it’s pretty expensive.”

“Also, there is not much of a library of games,” he continued, stating software levels are still relatively low, “so sales will probably be slow until we see more content.”

Elsewhere, he also took a swipe at Nintendo’s 3DS, suggesting the new XL model is unlikely to stimulate "weak" sales of the handheld.

PS Vita was released in Japan last December, and arrived in the U.S. and Europe in February 2012.

Weak sales? Its number 1 worldwide, is he just talking about America?

my prediction is that the 3DS wins every month starting in August for the rest of the year. XL is going to help a lot more than he realizes, but that doesn't surprise me because he is pachter

If Patchter thinks that the 3DS XL model is unlikely to increase sales of the 3DS, that means that the 3DS sales are about to shoot up, because Pachter is always wrong.

For the first time I agree with him on something, the Vita is too expensive

Nintendo and PC gamer

Compared to the number of Ipads that were sold it is definitely not too expensive...

That's not how perceived value works though. If consumers believe the iPad is worth the money and the Vita isn't, it really doesn't matter how much either costs.

LOL
i think the "analyst" think game console are like smart phones that sell 15 million units in the first 3 months (and dissipate on the 6-7th month)

i don't know what figure is he using to say that 3ds is selling WEAK... i mean in a few weeks all 3 main region will sell more than 5 million units in its lifetime... and by the end of year it is almost inevitable that 3ds will surpass the 20-25 million mark with the booster seat provided by the holiday.

compared to the DS sales at the same time from release, you could say 3DS sales are weak.

didnt someone put up a chart that showed 3DS is actually selling more than DS did?

OT he is right about Vita but wrong about 3DS as usual

perhaps, but I remember someone putting up a chart showing the 3DS selling less than the DS. I'm too lazy to check right now though.
