Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Smash Brothers: What am I getting myself into?

We did the black hole glitch for about 20 minutes.

Suddenly, Peach had dealt more damage to players than any of the characters (Kirby, Link, Jigglypuff or Fox) who had been in more than 3,000 matches each.

Wave-Dashing and L-Cancel are not in Brawl, which kinda stinks. They (Nintendo) could've at least let it be legal in a professional league online. Maybe even an option for turning it on and off.

No, that'd be stupid. These "tech moves" are simply exploiting the way the game works...which is all fine if you can do it, but there's no reason Nintendo is obligated to purposely include those exploits in Brawl.

And I'm sure completely different exploits will be found and practiced in Brawl, so I doubt the "pros" have anything to worry about.

Agreed. If you want to wavedash, keep playing Melee.

teching, projectile cancelling, fast falling, l-cancelling, wall teching, ledge teching, and a few others meant to be in the game. every single one has either a set animation, or is consistant (projectile cancelling). wave dashing is the only one not meant in the game.

if you want to see how obvious l-cancelling is, than use bowser's air. it doesn't look anything different than the normal one, except that it has a shorter recovery. i think around 3:00 is the l cancelling.

You took the rules of Melee and figured out how to use it to your advantage. That's super.

Now, here's a new game. It's called Super Smash Brothers Brawl.

It might remind you of another game. But it's not the same.

Some of the rules have been changed. I'm sure you'll find ways to use it to your advantage, like you did in the previous game.

I mean, Street Fighter 2 =/= Street Figther Alpha =/= Street Fighter 3. Each were similar, but they had a different ruleset. All the experts of previous games either kept playing their older game or they learned how to use the rules of the new game.

Seriously, you (or Smashboards) will figure out how to squeeze high-level play out of Brawl in due time.

i dont use smash boards (my friends do, i will prolly start soon), but squeezing out as much as possible is the point.  its like ur complaining about all the stuff possible in dmc3 (look at vids).  the devs put these little things there in order for people to abuse them and do cool stuff.  it does upset the balance (cough fox's reflector cough), but everyone works the game engine to the max.  and people always counter the new stuff anyways, which is why top ranked character fox is sometimes beaten by fourth ranked marth.

i officially boycott boycotts.  crap.

just so you guys know, l-cancelling was not removed from brawl.

the l in l-cancel stands for lag, not the L button. It was just coincidence that button happened to be the L button. from the demos ppl reported back that l-canceling worked passively if you fast falled before an aerial move.

Actually, the important things you must know are:

It doesn't matter if you are considred a pro, you can be defeated by a amateur that doesn't know any "tech moves".
Items can turn the game pretty quickly.
The game is not about just winning, just like Mario Kart.
The important is to make the other guys get pist for being beaten in a way the were not expecting.
An awsome game to play with friends.

If you believe this, you've never met a "pro."

pros do so much stuff, they would have to kill themselves all four times (pro is 4 stock, 9 mins). pros do so much they would slaughter amatuers 4-0 in all matches. mew2king uses mewto (worst character in us) against all unranked. he does this to mock them.

real matches dont use items, or allow stages with randomness (its a case by case thing, like the ships on corneria rnt random).

the game is about winning, but in some cases people dont care about winning. that is that person's choice, it doesn't change the game.

the randomness is still fun. after all these years the randomness still makes our matches fun.

edit:correct mew2king's name.

And yet you didn't correct MewTwo? Weird. (Refering above post editing a typo).

"Real Matches don't allow items" Real baseball games have a soft ball. Real Football games are CFL rules. Real Wrestling Matches allow folding chair interference. (If you disagree, just ask David Schultz!)

Your matches don't allow items. Real matches do. Your matches do fall under the label of "Real" as well. It's a weird thing, I know, but it's true.

Also, I'm ranked 5,687 in Canada for coming in 2nd in 2 regional tourneys, so take that! (I was beat by a 10 year old girl in the first, and by my roommate in a 10 minute dance that we had our audience cheering for. I was confused, but hey, 1 life, 250+ damage on each of us was apparently an exciting finale)

No items. Fox only. FINAL DESTINATION!

No fun...

Having no items is the stupidest thing ever. Of course they're random...but they're part of the game! If you're a good player, you should know how to use items.

I don't mind playing a match without items sometimes, and I can understand it in really big tournaments, but otherwise, you're killing the game.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Items in my opinion don't change the game that much.... because with or without items I can't beat my brothers and in mario kart I dominate with items :p
