Forums - General - Need help! How long does it take for Website to load in your browser.

I got an email today off somebody telling me that it took my website 44.6 seconds to load. Now I'm worried that the loading time might deter people from visiting the site. Could you please click here and tell me how long it takes to load on your browser.

This would be very much apprieciated

Here's the email received.

Saw your post on mmorpg.com and decided to check you guys out but was turned off as it takes forever for your page to completely load (44.6s - standard public library connection - Firebug) and has lots of redraws (screen jittering) and lockups where it makes the experience blah.

As a fellow web developer this irks me so I want to help you guys out.

to help speed up your page load:
1. move all unnecessary javascripts (not required for view/initial rendering) to bottom of page just before </html> - like your google analytics script in header.

2. on all your images specify witdh & height dimensions in <img width="" height=""> this will allow your browser to know how big elements are and will considerably reduce screen lockups and jittering caused by redrawing the page. Also any elements in css/html need to have dimensions (less dynamic scaling elements the better)

3. properly scale and compress your images -
don't know if the 2,000 x 1,115 bg img is correct but it needs to be scaled down or at the very least compressed to cut down its size. Typically web standard size is 1024x768. To compress your images you need a program like photoshop to do it - i can help if you don't have it.
if you do this you can cut out 50-75% of your page loading time.

4. gravaton or something like that gives your page 4 redirects which take a lot of time and should be eliminated if possible.

5. use google hosted jquery (minified) as its faster worldwide and save you page load - unless you modified it in some way.

6. if you can control your server/page cache times you need to make a lot of them atleast a week refresh rate as most are specified in minutes which is unnecessary if they don't change often and keeps things from having to be re-downloaded so often.

well its all i got for now in this quick tour, contact me if you want to talk at the email i listed above.

Not more than 5 seconds per page.

Thanx spurge. How are you doing?

5-6 seconds

It wasn't too bad for me on Firefox with NoScript running. It took another second or two to load all of the javascript stuff, and it loaded up completely in about 8 seconds on Chrome with no javascript being blocked. So not great, but not nearly as bad as what that guy seemed to experience.

Edit: My internet is running a bit slow right now; I think my roommate is downloading something. The loading wasn't any worse than for VGC.

Thanx for the info guys. I know it needs to be optimised a bit but that needs somebody who knows what they are doing. I don't much about this sort of thing.

Around the Network

Most pages took less than 5 seconds.

my average speed is 1MB/sec

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

8-10 seconds, 200KB/s usual DL speed, UK. Would definitely deter me from browsing many pages there.

There are definitely some latency issues. It took roughly 10 secs for me and my speedtest usually rate at 19ms 25mbps down and 35mpbs up.

EDIT: We are talking about your website, gamingcapacity.com, right? Otherwise, most website take, at most, 2 sec for me.

about 5 seconds.

I have about 35Mbps and it took approximately 20 seconds to load your front page. Insane. It's probably due to the old PC I'm currently using.
