Forums - Gaming - Overheating PS Vitas lead to Japanese investigation, but Sony points to user error

It does sound like user error since it is such a low amount. I could see stuff getting stuck in the charging port on the Vita. It is a handheld system. I'll have to make sure that doesn't happen to mine, I wouldn't want a potential fire overnight. If this has anything to do with the hardware itself, maybe if you put the charger in the wrong way it could be more likely to burn up? It doesn't charge your Vita, but since they didn't design it to prevent wrong insertion it fits. If it is a combo of dirty ports and backwards charging there probably would be only 31 cases.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

I hope this is user error and not just the quality

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

First I was like, damn, 3123!?

Then I was like, lol, 31.

It doesn't matter how small the failure rate is, a potential source for a cable fire is a hazard for your home. Until now I always had my Vita charging when not playing it, even when I'm not at home. After reading this news, this habbit will change.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

Exatly how long has Vita been on the market and how long was it before the first report of RROD after the 360 hit the market?

I think catching the problem early is a good thing for Sony. They can fix it before it becomes a serious issue.

I'm all about accountability whether it's a company, or the consumer but should this be a faulty hardware, one case is one case too many specially that of a fire hazzard.

Personally, I hope it's just a slight misuse of the Vita on the user's part. Otherwise, no matter how low the number, I certainly would not want to be one of those individuals.

I'm pretty sure the RRoD issue was much more prevalent. This Vita case really doesn't appear to be a serious problem. With this low of a number, its reasonable to assume its just one of the inevitable issues found in all electronics. Seriously, there is nothing to suggest that drastic action is necessary.

Well the good news is that we know now that more than 31 people atleast played games with their vita.

Continues to prove my point that ppl will spread anything on the internet if they can make the vita look bad.

This can't even compare to that issue. First line Xbox 360 had a 26% failure rate if I remember correctly.

This isn't about catching a problem early, though I won't rule out the possibility of it becoming an actual issue .05% is not one, this is about taking immediate action to any claim resulting around Vita and any Sony product really. They can't afford to rule this off as what it is, user error, because they need to protect their image and protect their products right now. If any claim, became a substantial one on the off chance, and they didn't take immediate action, they would be in business PR hell. Which is a real problem since there happens to be a lot of people that find joy in Sony having problems, hence all of the hackings.
