Forums - Sony - Sony has no plans for PlayStation Vita price drop, focus is on 'creating bundles'

They need to drop the price of the memory cards, that's all. The Vita supports digital distribution better than any handheld I've ever seen and a memory card is a necessity, but they're ridiculously overpriced for what they are. The console itself I'd say is priced okay.

Rule number 1:

Never announce a price cut before the actual price cut. But it's obviously coming.

In the same interview, Yoshida confirmed that Sony is also "very happy" with how the PS3 is performing, in terms of sales, and sees no need for a price drop any time soon.

So Sony isn't going to give a price for the ps3

Bet with gooch_destroyer, he wins if FFX and FFX-2 will be at $40 each for the vita. I win if it dont

wouldnt it look a bit stupid if the vita was more expensive than the ps3? ps3 for $170 and a vita for $250?? no one would buy it.

Actually this I can believe. Its too new and they already have no room for a price drop.

When 3DS dropped, it had a very healthy margin and dropping its price only put it a little negative. The Vita is only a little positive at this point and doesn't have the room.

Instead they need to focus on its value and that's where bundles come in. So, expect big bundling with CoD and AssCreed and any big 1st party title along with the smallest memory card in each bundle.

Seems like there are several threads being created that all feel the same.

I don't know, maybe it is just deja vu. Anyway, a price cut is not needed on the Vita. I said the same things with the 3DS. Release must have games, software drives a system and you must make the value seem higher than the actual price.

Wii's are cheaper than 3DS and that's selling like hot cakes at the moment, and that's with a price cut.  The gap was even bigger before.

not quite the same is it.

the 3DS is considerably cheaper than the VIta and the Wii is dead awaiting its replacement.

Wii-U hadn't been announced when the 3DS launched at a higher price than the Wii, which was dying but only due to Nintendo neglect.  We're at a slightly later stage now, sure.

Plus, the PS3 is considerably more expensive than a Wii, in relative terms the gap is similar (amazon: £188 PS3, £198 Vita compared to £99 Wii, £134 3DS.  If the numbers are off because of a sale or something, then I do apologise, I don't really know the price point for the consoles).
