Forums - Sony - Rumor: PS3-4000 skips gamescom, 16Gb Flash SKU goes cheap

£99 seems way too low to be true. That's £30 cheaper than a 3DS.

Stock levels high?

Hmm...

Pricecut at Gamescom, Slim reveal at TGS? A Month of Cut prices would be enough to clear stock for a Slim ship. Fairly sure that TGS is mid-late September this Year.

I don't know but you're thinking current models down to $199/$249 then switching over to the new slim with the added $149 base model later this year. That would be interesting and have double market attention. The current models at that price wouldn't cause a loss so they could possibly do that to take advantage of their momentum and have a killer year.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Would be a pretty good plan, but then again... This is Sony were talking about.

My only concern with the 16GB models is... after like 4-5 games, won't they run out of space if those games require installs? They could run out of room after just 1 game depending on what the game is, and also taking an understanding that probably a good 2-3GB of that 16GB will be reserved to the system.

I can understand the cost savings, sure, but they better make sure all games in the future are capable of being run without big installs!

most games don't require a big install, 1 Gb or less.  There are exception of course but it is no different than the 4Gb 360 in the way that installs will have to be managed by the user.  The largest install out there is GT5 at 10Gb (which is technically optional and can be as low as 256 mb).

In the case of the 4GB Xbox 360, though, there are no required installs. The only thing you have to watch out for is DLC eating away at your space.

A 16GB PS3 (~12-13GB actually usable for gamers/customers) would drastically limit their amount they could run on their system especially if they wish to pick up older cheaper games that have those installs.

I agree that in both cases the small amount of flash memory is a bad idea, but to go from NEVER having that low of hard drive spice to just now adding it so late in the generation just seems backwards and a bad choice. If it can be expanded like the 4GB Xbox, which I assume it will be able to, then I guess it is not so bad, but prices for hard drives seem to have soared lately as well so anyone purchasing it with the intent of purchasing a hard drive themselves will add some considerable cost just like if they did so with the 4GB Xbox (probably not quite as high though since MS's is proprietary).
