will be hard for uk to beat china or russia because uk has not so many inhabitants and russians/chinese love doping. just imagine some countries like uk would have 320 million population like usa, they could easily compete for first then.

So..... hows the opening ceremony compared to China?

They don't show it here in New York on T.V. until 6 and a half hours.

We don't know. It's been kept VERY secret, and it's not going to be known for another 3 hours yet. I guess you'll just have to watch it live...

Anyway, big news! FIRST WORLD RECORD SMASHED!

Event-  Men's Archery, Singles

Country- South Korea

Name-  Im Dong-Hyum

New Record- 699 in 72 arrows, previous 696

Event- Men's Archery, Teamn

Country- South Korea

Names-  Im Dong-Hyum, Kim Bub-Min, Oh Jin-Hyek

New Record- 2087 points from 216 arrows, previous 2069

yeah i also read that. funny that the second south korean in the team would have also broken the world record with 698 points if there wouldn't have been his teammate

@Chris- Yeah, South Korea are looking at a Gold-Silver lockout in the Olympics this year. They're just unbeatable...

So let me get this straight---------Last time you guys pushed out 47 medals in China ( The country you sort of basically owned for 100 years) and now you expect to jump up to the 90's?

Stop being a Dingy Bird Conegamer and give us a proper Prediction, instead of what you gave us.

Yes. We got 1 (one) Gold in 1996. We've never been in better shape!

And the home games tend to give you an extra 10-15% on top of your medals table, even as high as 20%. And the funding has quadrupled from Beijing. And Brits are far more dominant now than they used to be. I stick by 80-90 medals for the UK, and 3rd overall.

no chance.  50 would insane.

Admittadly I thought they got 67 medals last time out not 47, but still...I think they'll improve and reach 3rd overall with a hearty medals increase.

And this archery world record holder is almost blind! He has 20-200 vision; that is, he can see what a 20-20 person would see at 200ft at 20ft! That's awful, he can't even see the target!

Bloody hell chaps I am so excited. Ready for all the Gold, Silver and Bronze and the constant playing of the , "star spangled banner." My biggest hope is Russia and China flop. To the rest of you all good luck and enjoy.

We need a lot of women's volleyball talk because it is the hottest olympic sport Oh yeeaaahh!!!!!!!!!!!

Heh, keep dreaming

Russia...maybe. But China? No way. I think it'll be, at the end of the games:

1. USA (113 medals, 58 gold)

2. China (109 medals, 55 gold)

3. UK (98 medals, 44 gold)

4. Russia (103 medals, 42 gold)

Just speculation. I think the hype and home turf, as well as the Tour De France success and extra funding, could just push Team GB into 3rd, above Russia. Or maybe they'll crack and fail, but I doubt it. No home country has done it yet, and I doubt it'll start now. The crowd will carry them.

Is that something that usually happens? Or did you just throw it in there?:P

Home Ground always makes the athlete's better, and we all know British people are cheaters! They try to act classy with that accent but it won't fool me!

Considering the home feild advantage probably helped Canada take the medal count in the Vancouver Olympics and China take the gold count last summer Olympics; I think high expectations for the British is a reality and not false expectations.

Do American Youth even know what the Olympics are? You have only been around for one previous event.

7 actually, nice math, Ryan. (Though I only remember 2.)

Lol,  The USSR popularized the use of Steriods in the Olympics and it is one of the many reason Steriod us become popular. Later the US developed better steriods and we started winning more. It is also claimed that the USSR used to threaten athletes with torture or death to get them to be the best. I also hear China uses weird methods to get good athletes. Yao Ming of China's basketball team was actually breed by two really tall Chinese parents who were good at basketball. Weird country that will pay to breed athletes to win.

China is all about winning. You don't remember when news got out that they train young teens (around 13 I think it was) extremely hard?

They are tough!
