Forums - Sales - Global UP! 14th July (This is a sales site! Worst week of the gen?)

Here are some decent sellers from the first halves of the past two years

2011 had Dead Space 2, LBP2, Killzone 3, LA Noire, Mortal Kombat, Portal 2, even Homefront sold decently.

2010: Red Dear Redemption, God if War 3, Heavy Rain, Alan Wake, Mass Effect 2, Splinter Cell Conviction, Bad Company 2, Bioshock 2, etc

And they probably had more games that were high quality but didn't sell well.

Look at this year

2012: Mass Effect 3 and Ghost Recon and Max Payments 3 (maybe)

Not only is the list waaaay shorter. I also can't think of any other games that were considered quality games.

Yeah, the games released this year have been pretty shocking. The only good game really is Xenoblade, and that was released LAST year!

Aside from that, I've got Rhythm Thief and Theatrhytm for the 3DS, which were released this year.

Last year GT5 sold near 1.8m, doesnt seem getting close this year.

I think GT5 will sell 1.5m this year without bundles or new editions (XL/Spec II is not released in Europe yet).

When it does, it will be interesting to see where it can arrive in what's already its strongest territory. Go, Man Furismo Jive!

About the complete weekly data, what a depressing week in Europe! All HW down without exceptions, only DS SW up by a tiny amount and no SW beyond 500k... The only good data of the week are a few SW regional WoW boosts, PS3 and XB360 in USA and PSV in Japan.
Summer, I suppose...

Confirmed.

September.

Don't think that the GT5 academy will really sell that many copies though...

Haven't played Mass Effect 3, but I'd say its probably pretty good too.

That many? How many?

I think it'll struggle to sell much more than a million, which is vad for GT.

You realise this is just a 'GOTY edition' essentially right? Has any GOTY edition sold anywhere near a million copies on release? I've never looked at that.

If you mean lifetime, then GT5 definitely will sell more than 1 million more.

*sigh*, my post was clearly misunderstood...

I'm just saying, don't expect great things. Like the PS3 redesign. Don't get your hopes up...

...for now

"Great things" is all in how you, as the individual, sees it. Personally, the Academy Edition is a nice addition to an already established title and it will be good for people who have yet to pick up the game to finally experience it (with all the extras included). That, in and of itself, is great.

Saleswise - it will sell no matter what, but nobody claimed it was going to suddenly sell 5-10 million (and it doesn't have to). I don't expect much more than a 200k boost or so (which isn't too shabby for a game that's nearly 2-years-old and has already clocked in nearly 8 million copies worldwide). Then again, with this releasing close to GT5's third holiday, it will likely eclipse that and then some without much trouble.

The new, cheaper 16GB PS3 should allow to offer affordable console+wheel+game bundles, Sony should offer them and also make deals to offer wheel+GT5AE bundles for those that already own a PS3 (or want a wheel different from the one bundled with the console) and exploit the synergy with the renewed visibility offered to the game by the new edition. Wii+wheel+MKWii was one of the best seller Nintendo bundles, when adding a wheel, that greatly improves their gameplay, doesn't make the total price skyrocket, racing games get great benefit on sales.
Let's just hope Sony marketing isn't in a masochistic period like when they botched the launch of LBP.
