Late 2013 is what I believe and what I hope.

Why because a bunch of people on a forum are crazy and ignore blatant signs?

It is my understanding that Sony lost $ billions because the PS3 was expensive to manufacture. Not because of the late release. Had they launched in 2005, the ps3 would have been even more expensive and they probably would have lost even more monies. |
Yes, because Sony thought they were the masters of the universe and thought people would actually pay $600 and they'd still dominate. That plan failed after a few months of horrible sales. After that they have been desperately trying to undercut Microsoft by
Now ask yourself. How can Microsoft ask a $100 premium for its console? If I can get a PS3 with a 250GB for $229 I shouldnt have to pay $299 for a 250GB X360. It should cost $199 because Xbox was the underdog, has no Blu-ray, has no free-online and has fewer xclusives. And yet they can over-charge because they secured the online echo-system with core gamers earlier.
The main X360 SKU has cost $299 for 4 years now (it went from $349 to $299 in Summer 2008). That's a $0 drop.
In the same time PS3 went from $399 to $249 and soon down to $229. That's a $170 drop and loss of revenue.
I think that both the ps4 and x720 should release before holiday 2013, but we have heard nothing from sony or ms. I feel like a 2013 e3 reveal would be too late for a holiday 2013 release. And sony has stated that they don't wanna be late to the party. I also feel that holiday 2014 is too late.
So i'm gonna say late2013/early2014

I honestly don't think that due to launching late tho...they lost so much money because they launching with a more expensive product but then had to sell it for a big loss. It cost them dearly. not saying the late launch didn't affect the situation...just that I don't think it's the biggest reason. The big hurdle for them against the xbox next gen is, at least as I see it, is NA. Even if they launch a few months later, as long as the price is good, they will take a huge lead in Europe and Asia in no time. I sure hope Polypony is hard at work on the next GT, will be very useful to have one announced at least at launch (even if the game comes to the market a year later) |
Yeah perhaps the one year delayed release wasn't the biggest reason for losing so much money but it's still a big reason. I tried to translate it into a palpable sum of money lol.
We know for a fact that the difference in profits between PS3 and X360 is over $5 billion. It's not unreasonable to argue that a big chunk of that difference was due the 1 year delayed launch of the PS3.
Honestly I feel that if PS4 launches say in Fall 2014 they won't beat the Xbox 720. While if they launch simultaneously PS4 will clearly win. (now just talking marketshare which obviously isn't the same as profits, but still they depend significantly on each other)

lol, post of the day.
We're many who would laugh so hard at poor superchunk if his console launch predictions went wrong. (cause he's been so cocky about them. We all love you though 'chunk!).
