Come on now my man real slim shady....they didn't lose 'billions' cuz they launched 'late'

lol.. slim shady

I think they did. Microsoft is absolutely pumping money out of the X360. The profit difference between X360 and PS3 is several $ billion already (I think X360 is about break even or slightly profitable while PS3 is minus $4 billion or in that ballpark, it can't all be due to Bluray?) and the biggest reason is because X360 could build up that crucial online echosystem by launching first.  It's not like the X360 is the superior product lol, I think we can both agree on that.

You have seen all through the generation how MS have afforded to have the X360 overpriced while Sony has been forced to hunt and sell the PS3 for cheap.

I honestly don't think that due to launching late tho...they lost so much money because they launching with a more expensive product but then had to sell it for a big loss. It cost them dearly. not saying the late launch didn't affect the situation...just that I don't think it's the biggest reason. The big hurdle for them against the xbox next gen is, at least as I see it, is NA. Even if they launch a few months later, as long as the price is good, they will take a huge lead in Europe and Asia in no time. I sure hope Polypony is hard at work on the next GT, will be very useful to have one announced at least at launch (even if the game comes to the market a year later)

Yeah perhaps the one year delayed release wasn't the biggest reason for losing so much money but it's still a big reason. I tried to translate it into a palpable sum of money lol.

We know for a fact that the difference in profits between PS3 and X360 is over $5 billion. It's not unreasonable to argue that a big chunk of that difference was due the 1 year delayed launch of the PS3.

Honestly I feel that if PS4 launches say in Fall 2014 they won't beat the Xbox 720. While if they launch simultaneously PS4 will clearly win. (now just talking marketshare which obviously isn't the same as profits, but still they depend significantly on each other)
