Well looks like there are now other sources coming out confirming the three skus, but we may not get official confirmation at gamescon. poo. Seems stupid not to just confirm it all at this point.

Who exactly was the guy that rumored these prices and why is he credible? I don't wanna consider some rumor that was started by a dude on a forum.

neogaf and many of its users are not typical forum banter. From what I can tell via history and others opinions of the posters... he's very reliable.

The whole 16GB thing would be really stupid, now if it was say 64 GB internal storage, than that would be really cool. I think anything less than 32 GB's is insufficient to do anything and a rip off to consumers. MS is one of the worst offenders of ripping people off when data storage isn't expensive.

MS can get away with only 4GB because their games don't have madatory installs and huge updates. On the PS3, 4GB isn't even be enough to play Skyrim. Furthermore, you can use 16GB USB memory sticks on the 360. You can use two at a time and that gives you an additional 32GB of space.

But here is the question we should be asking. Will the 16GB PS3 allow us to install games and DLC on USB memory sticks? Or is a hard drive required if more space is needed?

I agree that 16GB isn't smart imo. There's going to be a lot of angry consumers. They should release something with at least 40-60GB at a slightky higher price ($199) imo

The 16GB is surely for a casual push where massive downloads for games are non-existant.

However, its very likely there will be a very simple process for adding a HDD (arleady easy on PS3s) with clear directions for 16GB users.

If someone doesn't own a PS3, buying one of these during the holiday on a likely black friday sale with bundled stuff and then $50 for >500GB HDD would be perfect.

Hell I bought the 250GB model in 2010 and still have over 180GBs free. For the greater majority of people... a small storage is sufficient.

Additionally, I think some of you are forgetting the WiiU's impact.

MSony will want to have significantly cheaper models of their current systems this year in order to entice users who only have Wiis to not upgrade and instead buy a PS360.

Both will push their large libraries, $100s less for the hardware, similar functionality, bluray (PS3), big networks and apps (360 mostly), etc.

It makes sense for Sony to put out a PS3 model that they can advertise as "Starting at $179!".

You really don't know if 16GB will be enough for the greater majority and it depends on the games they choose. Even casuals can easily use 16GB from mandatory installs and updates.

Obviously buying a hard drive is an option. But is it the only option if you need some extra space on a 16GB PS3?

Nah. I'm sure Sony will allow it to be compatible with external USB devices as well. Hell, even Wii does that.

Can't you already use external hard drives via usb ports?

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

You can but just for backup... you can't play the game or use the save data from the external HD... you need to copy first to PS3 HDD.

With a slimmer PS3 with, I would imagine cheaper manufacturing costs, the prices needs to be slightly lower than that. Plus, the pricing is somewhat odd.

I'd say, it should be:

16GB $129.99
250GB $199.99
500GB $249.99

I would imagine the 16GB would for Family Friendly focus.
