Forums - General - So I am writing two books in the past couple of years,but..my bad luck hits hard.

You have to release it as soon as possible then like before the movie...

Don't worry about it. There are really only something like eight plots anyway. Every book, movie, video game, etc. has similarities to others. It doesn't matter so long as your books have striking characters. It's all about the characters right?

The Coordinators thing is deliberately adapted from Gundam SEED, right? Otherwise that's another one

Edit: oh, i confused your description for the movie's. Okay, then they're "adapting" from Gundam SEED.

In my mind, the solution to that problem lies in World-building. Terry Brooks got away with it quite well when he made a total ripoff of Lord of the Rings plotwise, but because the Four Lands of the Shannara series were so well-developed as something distinct from Middle Earth despite being a straight fantasy setting, and that can be a solution for the future.

this is why you never start writing a book until you've patented the hell out of it. sorry you had to learn the hard way.

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

If you mean him, well I don't really know.

if you mean me, I am not actually doing the earth and space people, basically earth is abandoned as a living planet because it became so overpopulated by industrial buildings, that are controlled by multiple organizations across the galaxy, those powerful organizations basically hire workers and machines to get their resources from earth and ship them outside, to their own planets / space stations, and since the earth is one of the main "life" resource , most of these buildings basically cover the whole atmosphere , blocking out the sun from most of the water surface on earth, making it black rather than blue, hence why its called "the black planet" , so earth isn't a living planet, but is a place for workers, All humans live outside it, so not like SEED where some live in it (the poor), and others live somewhere else, also i'd like to point out, that workers aren't slaveworkers, they work for their own profit, Elyzium , is were the outlaws and rejects live , at least that was the plan.

as for inspirations , I am actually inspired by mainly japanese sci-fi , but one of my main inspirations is Cowboy Bebop, especially the characters.

I honestly hate patents, and I can't see myself patenting a fictional ship , patenting an ancient name is also a very dick move.

I think you guys are talking about copyrights and tradmarks. Patents are for inventions.

As for copyrights. The easiest and fastest way to copyright something is to simply publish it. Copyright law give copyright to all published works. All you have to do is publish a short story with your characters and anything else important to the full book. Once it has a publish date it's yours forever. I'm pretty sure even just publishing it on the web counts too.

Tradmarks are another story. You need a lawer for that. But it's just for logos, slogans, etc.

I have a friend who is a writer and these kinds of things happen to him so often it's kind of uncanny. I swear Hollywood has devised a way to read our minds.
