Steam as a games delivery system AND their sales are both amazingly cool things, I agree. But Steam is like itunes in that it's a business model that is really just a stop gap towards cloud based gaming. Anyone who's tried Onlive and who's unbiased will tell you that cloud gaming is the future of this industry. Yes, it has it's problems, but it's a brand new concept and will, down the line, completely replace both physical AND digital ownership.
No more piracy, no more online cheating. It's a win win for both gamers and publishers.
