Forums - Microsoft - Mega Man and Pac-Man never coming to Street Fighter x Tekken Xbox 360, Despite being on the disc

Eurogamer

Mega Man and Pac-Man will never release for the Xbox 360 version of fighting game Street Fighter x Tekken - despite them being on the disc.

"Unfortunately for Xbox 360 users, Mega Man and Pac-Man are exclusive to the PS3 version of the game," Street Fighter x Tekken producer Tomoyaki Ayano told Siliconera.

Capcom has endured criticism for its decision to lock DLC characters on disc, and this was fuelled by the decision to make some, such as Mega Man and Pac-Man, exclusive to the PlayStation 3 despite them not being PlayStation-owned intellectual property.

"Every game has data on it that is unused," Ayano continued. "In this case, Street Fighter x Tekken for the Xbox 360 did have the Mega Man and Pac-Man data on it. But, we never intended to release these characters on the 360.

"They are PS3 exclusives and that was our intention from the very beginning. They are not going to be timed exclusives either, they're PS3 exclusives."

Capcom has said locked DLC provides more "efficient" and "flexible" gameplay.

"SFxT has an enormous amount of content, fully developed and available for play and enjoyment immediately on-disc," the company said in a statement. "Given the 38 characters available for full play, as well as multiple play modes, SFxT provides great value for all players from day one.

"While Capcom is sorry that some of its fans are not happy about the chosen method of delivery for the DLC, we believe that this method will provide more flexible and efficient gameplay throughout the game's lifecycle.

"There is effectively no distinction between the DLC being 'locked' behind the disc and available for unlocking at a later date, or being available through a full download at a later date, other than delivery mechanism."

Not only is capcom greedy, but they are also lazy. lol at them at keeping those characters on the 360 version; especially if it was supposed to be PS3 exclusive.

Well put, Capcom...

... is what I'd say if their logic made sense. People aren't so much upset about it being on the disc, as they are about it already being completely ready and included on the disc on day 1 yet still being forced to pay separately for it. The problem isn't that it's on the disc, it's WHY it's on the disc, and yet locked out.

People would actually be just as upset about it if it turned out that they were providing DLC for download, but it turned out that the DLC was ready half a year before the game released - they only delayed release in order to make more money off it.

It's the moneygrubbing that people are upset about. And having forever-locked fully-playable (that is to say, non-beta) characters on the disc is just adding insult to injury.

DLC is meant to provide a way for developers to continue developing content for the game after it's "gone gold". It's not meant to be a way to make people pay more for the game by charging for content that was already finished.

Essentially, the question becomes... if they were going to prevent players from having those characters on purchase of the game itself, why did they spend extra time on those characters, time that could have been saved in order to release the game earlier or spent working harder on stuff that wasn't 100% perfected? The only reason was that they wanted more money, but weren't willing to up the price on the game itself.

Thats like them saying: go ahead and pirate the game if you want to play them.

Silly capcom.

what you people don't know is that it costs tens of thousands of dollars for Capcom for actually delete those files before they went gold and started to press those discs..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

So greedy. I hate this company almost as much as Activision.

But I'm curious how Pac-Man looks in a fighting game? I love that guy.

A) lulz

B) this is their work, their effort, their property and therefore their right to sell as they see fit.  if they want to give it away as some developers do, fine.  if they want to charge you for access, that's their right too.  i don't know what you do for a job, frankly it doesn't matter.  whatever wage you are getting payed is exactly as money grubbing as a company trying to make profit on a product.

What a shitty thing to do. This game has been a nightmare for them, I hope it continues to under-sell.

This is the way to go.
Developers should favoring Sony Hardcore again.
Everyone wants to be on the side of the Company that supports gaming and isn't destroying it with the same games every damn year.
Its completely natural the good guys get some extra stuff =) (of course its something different if someone is spending 23987238923 Million $ to get a Demo 2 months earlier)

The game's terrible anyway so i'm not fussed. Better fighters coming soon with TTT2 and Tekken X SF .
