Forums - Nintendo - So, will the Wii U have Achievements/Trophies or not?

I'm not going to buy the multiplats on the Wii U if they don't add some kind of achievement/trophy system even if they have 'slightly better graphics than PS3 and 360 versions.

Collecting achievements and trophies is way cooler than a few extra graphic filters etc.

Did Nintendo say anything about this already??

Thx.

You're expecting multiplats and achievements?

Don't be greedy, you can't expect both.

Nov 2016 - NES outsells PS1 (JP)

Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!

^^^ This guy seems dead set that Nintendo is doomed. Don't listen to it.

This is an interesting question that I never thought about.
I expect some form of trophy/achievement system, but then again Nintendo always likes to be different.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

We're not certain. They may exist, they may not, and even if they exist, there is contention about the form. There is evidence from the Nintendo Direct presentation on Miiverse that there are some sort of accomplishments present in NSMBU, but then we have statements that lead us to believe that whatever the system is, it might be console-based and not account-based.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I still don't understand why these are so important.

“Once you start getting into game-specific [Achievements] that’s developer driven.” Microsoft may require every game to have Achievements, but, Fils-Aime said, “That is not our philosophy.”

Basically, Nintendo won't force developers to implement achievements, and that is literally all we know about the matter at this point. It seems likely they'll let the developers decide how they want to use achievements. I'd be willing to bet that developers of multi-plat games won't go out of their way to remove achievements from the Wii U versions of their games, but I don't know whether Nintendo is planning to support achievements on an individual basis in their broader online strategy.

Nintendo pretty much already said they have an achievement system, although it's optional for the developers to use. I imagine Nintendo made the achievement system in their own unique way, probably something related to the miiverse thing, and I remember a rumor way back last year which said Nintendo wanted to implement the street pass for the Wii U, which imo is a really good idea.

I agree with you.

I can undestand and even support them for doing hard things, but the achievements for clearing stages or completing sections of the main quest just devaluate them.

OT: As others have said, Nintendo won't force them, so it will be up to developers. But given that every game has them, even Steam has them, it almost certain that they will be present in WiiU.

The question is how will they be implemented.

Please excuse my bad English.

i'm glad you got that quote in.  i was going to try and quote it from the top of my head and probably mangle it.  and i agree with that bit ... as long as the system is close enough to translate i can't see them removing code that is already there.  i must say though, in the early days the ps3 where not every game had trophies i was pretty angry about the universal support.  i think nintendo not not requiring it is a mistake.

Just on the topic of achievements on the Wii U...

I wonder if they plan on having things like Mii hats, etc, distributed with games, and unlocked by unlocking achievements. So, if you manage to unlock say, a weighted 50% of achievements in the new Rabbids game, you get a Rabbid Ears hat, and then if you unlock all of them, you get a full Rabbid hat (so, adding extra parts of the Rabbid appearance).
