"Makes me cry every day of my life"?

....and we are supposed to pay attention to what this pathetic little individual says?

he actually says Rare fucked themselves over by the way.... was he fired early on in MS ownership per chance?

facepalm..it's a figure of speech man. geez

and I believe you are misinterpriting what he says about fucking themself. I think he means they did so by agreeing to being bought by MS

anywho I think it's not a black and white situation. Both sides are surely to blame, not just one.

Wow, he was also the one who made the music for BK/BT damn.

Well thanks for stating the obvious I guess mr. composer...

Actually, I'm pretty sure Robin Beinland did most of the composing in those titles (and pretty much any Rare title throughout the years, including Kinect titles).

He probably means "fucked themselves over" as in, agreeing to being purchased.

He's Scottish and from Edinburgh.  As much as I would like to allow a poor choice of words, I highly doubt he didn't say what he meant to say.

The Scots that the people from Eastern Scotland speak is far easier to understand and less prone to misunderstanding than the Scots that people from Western Scotland or the Highlands speak.  Edinburgh is also perhaps the most educated city in Scotland, with Glasgow closely in second.  I offer Glasgow as second largely because of the neds in Glasgow who defy education.

A good example of Western Scots would be the works of Robert Burns, such as Auld Lang Syne.

Lots of rage in this thread. Which I can understand because old rare games were awesome. New ones suck.

Adinniken what do you mean? Are you agreeing with me that there is no contradiction between the phrase fucked themselves and ms ruined them?

@Sal.Paradise

You seem to think the Rare that MS purchased was talented. Nintendo sold them for a reason. They saw the writing on the wall. Most of Rare's talent was gone with MS purchased them. You don't sell one of your most talent developers to a competitor if you think they are still capable.

Ugh, they had to considering MS was the boss with 51% of the stock.

Funnily enough Rare is doing better than before financially.

Also, what the *insertrandomletters* does a composer know about the whole picture...

If rare made conquers bad fur day 2 It would sell more then kinect sports 1 and 2. assuming it's good of course.

saying things like that is pointless, its like saying the best selling star wars game is on the wii, it might be true, but no good star wars games have come to this gens console. if battlefront 3 came out tommorrow we all know it would sell millions on 360/ps3/pc

Shame
Rare were great
now they barely exist

But ultimately, the odd thing about the post was that financial stability is important, but should never be at the expense of creative expression for devs, and gaming enjoyment for those who recognize good games. Truly, rare's games were gems.

Too be fair, Kirkhope was with Rare since the N64 days and his first score was Goldeneye 007.  I'd say he's very familiar with the company since the days of Nintendo ownership and was there for the transition to Microsoft.

Beyond that, I think everyone can see the decline in Rare from the Ninty days throgh to the MS days and present day.
