Too be fair, Kirkhope was with Rare since the N64 days and his first score was Goldeneye 007.  I'd say he's very familiar with the company since the days of Nintendo ownership and was there for the transition to Microsoft. 

Beyond that, I think everyone can see the decline in Rare from the Ninty days throgh to the MS days and present day.
