Club Nintendo knows every purchase I made on my 3DS and DSi so, in a way, the accounts are already linked. I think the Wii U will be able to do this pretty easily.

The question is, how will this benefit anybody? Will there be content shared between the Wii U and the 3DS? Will they be implementing some sort of Achievement/Trophy system that can accumulate when you play both devices (God, I hope so!)? Will our friends on the Wii U automatically be our friends on the 3DS and vice versa? I'm interested to see this in action.

And let me go on record as stating that the day we are allowed to pre-order a Wii U, I'm paying it off! I've got high hopes for this system despite not having a single game I'm hyped to play.

It's not quite what you're getting at, but I believe they said that Smash Bros. on the Wii U and 3DS would have some form of interaction with each other. Admittedly, this could be as limited as the connectivity their home console and handheld have had since the N64 Transfer Pak...
