Terranigma - Possibly the Action RPG that rivals Secret of Mana 2 imo, although the game was never released outside of Japan, I managed to get a hold of the game, and man is this game amazing, kinda mixing up new religious themes with historical events and characters, what an original idea! You play as one character, you remake the whole world, resurrect the plants, animal life, the wind, etc and save/encounter several historical characters such as Christopher Columbus. This is one of the RPGs that also inspired Kingdom Hearts imo and is the first Action RPG I can think of that enabled you to jump during in battle and out of battle.

Terranigma was released in Europe, and so were the two other games of the Soul Blazer Triology.

IMO Illusion of Time was the best out of the three, but with Terranigma coming a really close second.

I thought all three were excellent myself, but Terranigma just had much more to offer me. Yet, Illusion of Time has the best moment; that is when the Princess's pet pig jumps in the camp fire, to cook itself in order to feed the starving tribesmen =P
It's a somewhat dark and depressing scene that is increibly humourous to reflect on.

Terranigma though, particularly once getting past Bloody Mary, is just filled with very satisfying and rewarding stuff; I loved building up all of the cities around the world, and following the worldwide/historywide conspiracy.

Terranigma, being one of my top 10 games of all time, also has the best ending in a video game for me. When Ark becomes a seagull and travels around the world he just helped to "recreate", it's a really touching moment.

Panzer Dragoon Saga. It's the best RPG I've ever played. Long enough to feel epic and tell a full story with complex characters, but short enough to never get tedious like almost all RPGs. I almost never replay RPGs, but I've replayed Panzer Dragoon several times. It's like rewatching a really good movie, you just keep noticing stuff you didn't see the first time through. The only other RPG series that comes close is Mass Effect.

Get a Saturn and play all the Panzer Dragoon games. I don't care if you mod the Saturn and pirate Panzer Dragoon Saga or pay the $300 to get a legit copy, but all gamers should play it at some point. It's too bad it's such a rare game.

You should be thankful that it's only 300$ dollars in the US for a copy. For a PAL copy, the cheapest you can find one is 2000 € . Sega and their brilliant 10K PAL copies business strategy FTW.

And I agree, Panzer Dragoon Saga is a game that all gamers should play or at least see once in their lives. It's one of my favourite games of all time.

When ever I see the going price for Panzer Dragoon Saga it makes me feel very lucky that I preordered it and only paid the retail price, which I think was about $50. Back then nobody knew it was going to be rare or be one of the best RPGs of all time. I've kept it in perfect condition and it's value just keeps going up. Although I never plan to sell it, it's one of my most valuable pieces in my collection.

It's basically  the same feeling that I have . I also bought it at the moment it released, mostly because I was already a huge fan of the Panzer Dragoon series (I bought my Saturn with Panzer Dragoon) so when I learned that they were going to release a RPG take of the series, I immediatly knew I had to buy it XD.

Since I was living in South America back then, I have only the NA version, but a college friend of mine here in Portugal has an original PAL copy. He doesn't let anyone touch it or come near it .

Oh yeah. I'm also a huge fan Panzer Dragoon 1 and 2. Have you played Panzer Dragoon Orta. It's the most under rated shooter on the Xbox.

I have, it was really great . Story wise, it had some very interesting moments, especially when Orta finds out who's her mother and realizing that the Dragon dies at the end.

Yeah, and then at the very end there's a baby dragon.

Oh didnt know that, was too young back than and didnt know about the interwebs ;p

I'll give Illusion of Time another chance, didnt like the gameplay aspect that much, but once again that was back than, my views on it might of changed, I know it did with alot of games that I tried out before but never got into them.

Well, keep in mind Illusion of Time isn't an RPG, there's no experience points or anything like that; it's system is identical to the Zelda heart system. Although, I personally enjoyed this game much more than Link to the Past; there was just a depth of an epic quest there that is fairly rare, even within RPGs. It is very cool how the player can shift form into other characters.

Compared to Soul Blazer and Terranigma, the world-building elements are just not really present; Illusion of TIme is more of a straight forward type game, and it takes place at one portion of the evolution of the world, and the next step occurs once the game is completed. Whereas Terranigma and Soul Blazer have the world growing throughout the entirety of the game.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

My ultimate RPG was Xenogears. It was epic from beggining to finish.

After i beat it, some people said the second disc was rushed, and i can understand, but when playing it it just felt like a poetic drama unfolding because of the story events. Music, combat system with mechs and humans, incredible story, memorable soundtrack, loveable characters and anime movies and lengthy with about a minimum 50 hours.
Its the best RPG ever in my opinion, closely followed by FF7.
