Nintendo 64

Nintendo finally lost its throne as the market leader in sales after NES and SNES, lost FF7, and many other third party game series/relation present from NES to SNES

Playstation 3

Sony finally lost its throne as the market leader in sales after PS1 and PS2 , majority or all of its profits from PS1 and PS2, FFXIII exclusivity to X360, many third party game series once exclusive to it were ported to X360, and falls to third for majority of this generation

Sega Saturn

Saturn failed to sell over 10 million units, lost consumer confidence, and began to lose money as a company as whole

Atari 7800

This was generation number 3 where the NES and Mega System from Sega was present. Atari lost its presence in the gaming world when this generation was mainly about Nintendo versus Sega. 

 

Microsoft Xbox ????

Undetermined 

 

Correlation does not cause causation (I believed bad gaming decision and arrogance influenced Nintendo, Sony, and Sega's unfortunate fate, with arrogance greatly affecting Nintendo and Sony) but this weird trend may repeats itself. Could Microsoft break this curse?

The resemblance is a little eerie too, in that many are saying that Microsoft is in the best position moving into the next generation (which is not without merit. They have a foot in the door of the casual market and yet retain the publisher goodwill that will keep third party games coming), much as how Nintendo or Sony were in strong positions going in to the 5th and 7th generations respectively.

In the Saturn's and 7800's case, however, the writing was really on the wall. The 7800 was too-little-too-late on Atari's part, after they realized that they could sell actual consoles again, while the awkward life and death of the 32X helped to scuttle the chances of a smooth transition. Sega had squandered their Genesis momentum well before the Saturn moved in.

Ah I just realized WiiU is the sixth Nintendo console! Maybe this curse could be a multiple of 3, meaning it affects console #6 and #9 for any game companies/division?

Ah I just realized WiiU is the sixth Nintendo console! Maybe this curse could be a multiple of 3, meaning it affects console #6 and #9 for any game companies/division? 

WiiU (no.6) will most likely fare better than GC (no.4) so I don't think that would apply.

 

I voted I don't believe in this curse. There are too few generations to draw any conclusion.

First of all, Microsoft is not the current market leader. For the current generation it is Nintendo

Nonsense. The real curse is the 4th console. Atari Jaguar, Dreamcast, Gamecube, etc.

Nice write-up but I think it may be a little too
