People forget that gaming companies rarely profit on hardware. Sony's plan is to bump up their install base and profit on software sales like the PS2 did and their rivals are doing now.

Looking at the reduced lead, I think the price cut has done it's job. If they can get more people in their home region to buy the PS3, it could be game over for the worldwide lead of the 360.
