Money is not the problem with our education system. In fact, we spend too much money on education with little to show for it.

OT: Nobody thinks about Killzone when we see lightning guns. We think Ghostbusters.

Speak for yourself, pug

I'm gonna assume you're referring to the Ghostbusters thing.

I assure you Ghostbusters is more widely known than Killzone.

How are we going to generate 1.21 giggawatts of power!?

Run a cable from a clock tower and wait for lightning. Simples.

Ahh... Looks like we are finally making some serious progress.

Hopefully they will start building Death Stars not too far from now... welfare can wait.

Agreed. Because everyone knows advances in technology has never helped our well being.

Killing millions of people cause they MAYBE have some weapons and then stealing their oil really helped so many people....

All this waste of money should have went into healthcare and everything else to help the people of the USA.
At least that the USA comes closer to Europe and isn't anymore comparable to a real 3rd world country when it comes to such things.

Millions of people killed? Maybe you should double check that number. Weapons actually were found and destroyed.

I don't want to bother discussing on how money should be spent. Enough money already goes into making quality of life in America amongst the best in the world.

Sorry, but I'm not really in the mood for politics.

Some of our greatest commodities and advances in science for humanitarian reasons come from projects funded by military advancement.

Even, if I recall correctly, video games. Dun dun dunnnnnnnnnnnn.

So, what can laser beams provide for us? Well.. coupled with stem cell research and genetic manipulation...

Real pokemon battles.

Lightning guns have been a fixture in Science Fiction for almost a century, but what you guys aren't seeing is what is most important. This technology is better suited to defense then it is offense, and it would be a powerful tool when it comes to diplomacy. This is one of those key technologies that could allow for a real missile defense shield. Just think about it electrons move faster then any missile, and they can seek out a missile even if it were somehow to be made stealthy. This would make for a truly outstanding defense, and actually take bullets out of adversaries guns.

Think about it the next time that North Korea runs a missile test. How much leverage will this weapon remove from them at the negotiating table. Having the bomb, and a missile to deliver it doesn't do you much good if it can be knocked out of the air thirty seconds after launch. If you can't use your biggest bargaining chip. Then what do you have left. In the long run weapons like these could make war obsolete. You can't hurt that which you are not able to touch.

Reagan just used the threat of advanced weapon systems to great effect. How much greater would the effect be if those same systems he dreamed of were made real and undeniable.

Not really. You even removed your original post to make people think you did. You said no one thought of Killzone, well, guess what...I did, so you are wrong.

I removed it to make to quote list smaller. I can't imagine people are really following this discussion.

This thread would have got more attention if you went with Ghostbusters. Instead you went with something... esoteric. That's cool, atleast you tried.
