Forums - Sony - Crunchyroll app coming to PS3 this Summer, PSV later this year

Crunchyroll:

Just announced at today’s Anime Expo, Crunchyroll is bringing its anime streaming application to two new platforms this summer, with the addition of Crunchyroll to the PlayStation 3 system and Samsung Smart TVs. An app for PlayStation Vita is also set to follow later this year.

Availability of the PlayStation 3 application will start off in the U.S. and Canada, and Crunchyroll will offer a 30-day free trial for users who download the app from PlayStation Network.

Those who have access to a Samsung Smart TV will be able to get the Crunchyroll app via the Samsung Smart TV Smart Hub in July.

That’s right; Crunchyroll is coming to PS3 and Samsung Smart TV! You may now start dancin’ in the streets.

I think it's coming to both PS3 and SSTV in July, but the wording is vague.   Regardless, this news is most excellent.

Perfect timing for me, was starting to only use Crunchyroll for Naruto each week but I might start using it for other series if I can watch it on my TV with a decent stream speed.

...

Awesome, the japanese are going to love that.

It's free on PC, but for device access you'll need a subscription.  It's $6.95/m and you get HD streaming, no ads, access on any device (Android, iPhone, iPad, soon PS3, PSV, and SSTV), streaming of shows within an hour of airing in Japan, and you contribute more to Crunchyroll and the anime industry, ensuring more shows make it over here.

On PS3 you'll get a free 30 day trial.

This is awesome news. Crunchyroll is the best streaming based service I have ever used (in terms of content and quality when compared to the price)

So watching it in HD? But you would still need good net to stream it..meh, I'll stick with the PC or direct downloads.

But regardless a nice feature for the PS3 (No other system other than PC has this right?)

Mobile devices have access, but I presume not in HD.  Except maybe iPad.  But aside from that, yes, PS3 & SSTV will be the first.

And I assume this will stream just as well as Netflix.  Ever since we upgraded from overpriced AT&T to Cox we've had no trouble watching Netflix in HD.

Yeah I need to upgrade from AT&T XD

AT&T's a joke!  We were paying $42/m for 6mbps internet, but were only getting 3.5mbps on a good day.  Cox was offering 18mbps for $45/m, but we went with the 30mbps deal for $65/m (like $50/m for the first few months), and were getting 30-33mbps at any given time.

We also switched our landline from AT&T to Cox, which is why we could justify paying for higher priced internet.  AT&T was charging us about $90/m for unlimited long distance, caller ID, the works.  Cox was offering that for $9.99 for the first three months, and only $29.99 after that.  Overall we went from paying almost $150/m to about $95, while we increased our internet speed almost 10-fold and kept the same level of phone service.

But the only reason my parents switched is because I made a point that the competition offers much better services.  Most older folks stick with AT&T because they've traditionally been a reliable brand, and these people are unaware that any better alternatives exist, which is why AT&T can get away with such absurd pricing.

tl;dr:  Fuck AT&T.
