Hey guys. So I've been having a really interesting discussion with S.T.A.G.E. in the "Nintendo seems to not be able to please its fans" thread. It came to the topic of what makes gamers in the general gamer crowd uninterested in Nintendo's platform.
My question for you guys is as follows. Which of the following criteria are required for your to purchase a Nintendo console?
RULE: Quote-post this list and bold the items you want, or just copy paste and bold. I want to see the whole list in your posts.
- All of Nintendo usual IPs like Mario, Zelda, Starfox and Metroid should be made with older gamers in mind.
- 3D Mario, 3D Zelda and 3D Metroid need to be marketed to older gamers.
- No more kiddie games need to come out on the system: 2D kirby, 2D Mario
- No more quirky IPs need to release on the platform: example Pikmin
- All top 3rd party multiplats need to be on the system.
- Needs to have 3rd party exclusives that rival assassin's creed and Batman
- Shouldn't release with non-proven games like Red Steel and ZombiU, which use non-traditional game mechanics
- Needs new Nintendo IPs that appeal to the older crowd, preferably but not limited to FPS.
- Needs Nintendo-made jRPGs that can rival Tales or Final Fantasy games.
- Needs Nintendo-made WRPGs that can rival the likes of Skyrim
- Needs new Nintendo IPs that appeal to the market in between kid and older gamers, like Potapon and Playstation All-Stars, games which are fun, not too older-gamer centric and not too kiddy.
- Needs exclusive j and W RPGs made by 3rd parties that rival Skyrim and FF.
- Needs a traditional controller
- Does not have any shovelware
- Has no Nintendo-made games that use waggle controls or "gimmicks", or that appeal to a younger crowd.
- Must have a majority of exclusives in the j-games genre
- Must have a majority of western exclusives that appeal to older gamers.
- The traditional controller needs to be in the main sku.
- Must not be branded Nintendo.
- Must be branded Sony
- Must be branded Microsoft
I'll be very interested to hear your thoughts. And Nintendo fans, please let them express themselves without taking insult, this thread is about their honest opinions, something fans and Nintendo as a company should have been aware of a long time ago.
Thanks for sharing

Seeing that the 360 has done so well regardless of the lack of first party exclusives its a testament that third party multiplats are running the show. Nintendo needs to have these things (on an equal sales level) and more variety than the competition who will be stocked full of relevant next gen third party titles. The Nintendo didn't do a good job with quality control on third party. Nintendo, of course will have its first party and the core Nintendo fanatics will come, but they must get at least a handful of reliable third parties much like Microsoft has to make the dirty exclusives they refuse to make like Rare did for them for so long. Some of Nintendos biggest battling titles against Sony were made by Rare, so they must think of a successor. Third party multiplats on the Wii U could make use of the Wii mote for extended features, but COD isn't one of those games. Too many extras to look at is a distraction from the screen. Games like Zombie U give me some hope. It's a fresh take on Zombie survival. Solid first party like Star Fox, Kid Icarus and Donkey Kong Country and others could definitely be a hit on the Wii U instead of coming out so late on the Wii or not existing at all. Nintendo is going have to worst multiplats in graphics and power next gen, so exclusive are a must for them.
The online system will need more work, but it seems Nintendo is content to stay behind Microsoft and Sony in that department.
All those things considered having a Wii U would be a no brainer, especially if they want to extract core gamers from the PS360 crowd or keep at least some tired Nintendo fans from jumping ship.
