Forums - Gaming - New game bought. Second try. Risen. Your thoughts.

All right.  First, sorry for the other posts.  I kept getting an error message and I did not know the threads were getting posted.  Thanks to my fellow vgchartz members, I know what I did wrong.  So, here we go again.

Last night, I bought Risen, new, for 19,99$.  I don't know anything about the game, so I am going in blind.  I thought it looked cool and it's sequel caught my attention when it was released earlier this year.

I have played for about an hour and a half so far.  First off, I have the feeling that this game does not hold your hand very much.  Also, the map does not seem to be very useful.  I am interested in the story, but the main character seems to be kind of generic.

So, without spoilers, I would like your opinions on the game.  Did you enjoy it enough to finish it?  Any replay value?  In the long run, how is the story?  I thank you in advance.

I loved Risen. It's obviously not a game with high production values but for me they are high enough to be able to get immersed in that world.

The main character absolutely is generic. And I would say that the story is on the weakish side. But I enjoyed the whole thing. Took me 60 hours I think, all worth it.

Thanks for the reply. I have put in more time in it and...I love it. But, it's not an easy game. The combat takes some time to get it right. I am not always sure what to do, but completing quests is rewarding. On a side note, I really appreciate the music.

@pots555, i beat the game as well. put around 50hrs or more into and the quests, combat reminded me of oblivion to a certain degree without the high production values. its worth your time, if u do delve into it to the end. the game can have a bug when u are fighting the final boss, other then that its a good game in my opinion.

Thanks ROBOTECHHEAVEN for you reply. Well, I have just been on Metacritic and I am somewhat shocked to see it has a metascore of only 60. And the user score is not that much higher (62). Still loving it, but it is very old-school.

Glad to hear you love it!

The bad reviews for the X360 version were mostly because it had a bad port, graphical issues I think.

Yeah, completing quests is rewarding. It's that kind of stuff that is good about Risen.

I am very much looking forward to Risen 2.

Wow! This game feels like a survival experience should. I am very vulnerable and I am almost 8 hours in this game. I still don't have armor and The Don won't give me one yet. Very addictive game but I am getting my butt kicked all over the place. The wildlife in there is very capable of defending itself. I sometimes get myself surrounded by 3 or 4 wild boars at a time. Plus, money is so rare that I have to really think of my priorites before making a decision. Not bad for such a low-radar game.

That's what I am talking about. Gameplay with depth and challenge.
