^The point is not that having a 2nd nub would be bad. It should have had one from launch. It didn't... oh well.

The point is: it would be even more stupid to put one now. Alienate 20 million consumers... Great thinking guys

And the other point is that MOST 3DS games don't use it!

I already addressed the bolded. Why do you think most games don't use it? Because it requires the additional peripheral for the gamers. If it was built in devs will surely make great use of it.

I can understand the alienating the crowd bit, but it's Nintendo's fault, as you said, since they didn't have one from the start. Either way you can't blame those who say they wanted a 2nd nub from this tho and you sure as hell can't say it wouldn't have benefited portable gaming, like milkyjoe is insinuating.

Same can be said about any feature in any videogame. I think the question here is focus.

for example, can you think of this game (and a lot others) not being on the 3DS? Impossible. Devs should focus on what the system does best. Even MH invented a trick to compensate for the lack of 2nd nub and gain of a second screen. It was a mistake... yes, but there's ways of making the system shine with unique games without it.

No the issue is why blame those who want the option? Having a 2nd nub will give the developers more freedom in the way they create their games and there are many who actually prefer having such a setup as well. We are running around the issue here. Can games work without a 2nd nub? Sure, psp did so with all those years of games. It didn't even have the touch. But a 2nd nub is so much better for some games and so much more convenient. There are definitely ways to make the system shine, but with a new nub there will be even more ways. And obviously people and even the devs wanted the 2nd nub as a control option for MonHun. Because having one is ideal for such a game. Like I keep repeating, more options is never a bad thing.

There's no blame, if it's that important to someone, then that someone shouldn't buy it or he should choose Vita.

But useless complaining is useless. It's not coming, no matter how much people complain, swear, stop eating, cut yourself. It's not. So instead of complaining, people should either adapt or move on to another system.

the second nub would have been worth it just so that the 3ds could act as a secondary wiiU gamepad.

It couldn't anyway the touch screen on WiiU is bigger and even more important is 16:9, while the DS touch screen is 4:3

edit: I forgot it has also clickable analog sticks and 2nd shoulder buttons.

then you missed the reason why I even started arguing with milkyjoe. There definitely is blame or rather asking them not to complain. They reasons for complaints are just as valid as anyone elses. They see value in having such an option for games. Thanks to the the ugly cpro, many were speculating/hoping for a 2nd nub in the future iterations of the hardware. They will be obviously feel disappointed.

and also this means that they will either release another Cpro for XL, or abandon future future support for Cpro for 3ds, or support it while not releasing a new one for the XL and alienate some audiences. It really is not a situation that is ideal to anyone

I'm not personally defining what handheld gaming is. I'm talking about what successful handheld gaming has been for the last 20+ years and the types of games that have been available that supported that success. There's a massive difference, and as I've just pointed out, games like Battlefield have never been part of that. Ever. So complaining that they aren't part of it now is as relevant as complaining that Mario isn't on the Vita.

yes yes you are. So you measure what should be or shouldn't based on sales? God forbid gamers wanting games like Dark Souls then...From Software should make a COD clone on the home consoles. You really need to understand there are those who enjoy games that might not really be the best sellers but still are high quality games.

lol who complains about mario not on vita? That's a bit random

I'm telling you that there have been many games like Crisis Core, GOW, Resistance Retribution etc last gen that could have REALLY used a second stick and would have made the experience so much better. I'm currently playing Gravity Rush and the second stick is a godssend for portable gaming. With two sticks a game like Battlefield WILL work and will work great on the vita.

Let's put all personal preferences aside. having more control options is a good thing so stop trying to spin it just to defend Nintendo. 3rd party devs would really like it too if not we won't see the birth of that fugly cppro. If the system itself had the second stick and the gamers didn't have to buy an extra peripheral to play with one, more devs will surely make use of it.

You've gone off the deep end here. Where did I say anything about games like Dark Souls? Dark Souls and others like it are able to find an audience (albeit a niche one) because they're following countless other RPG games on home consoles. I'm not saying games with low sales are worthless, I'm saying there are genres that have never been greatly required on handhelds for handhelds to thrive, and as such their absence isn't going to determine the success or failure of a platform like the 3DS.

The original statement was about a grand total of three games in genres that have had a few moderately successful appearances on handhelds (but nowhere close to the success they've seen on home consoles), and specifically one game from a series that has never appeared on a handheld before.  That's where the Mario on Vita analogy comes in, as you're never going to see it on Vita or any other non-Nintendo platform. Battlefield has proven to be just as likely to be found on any handheld as Mario has to be found anywhere else. So why complain that Battlefield isn't going to work on 3DS when there's nothing to suggest it would be released on the thing even with the perfect control options? Vita has the dual analog option, is there a Battlefield in the works? Nope, or at least, none that we know of, and given the history of the series, it's probable it will stay that way.

That's all I'm saying. I just don't think it's particularly unreasonable to question why it's important that a handheld isn't going to get a game from a series that's never been on a handheld before.

The thing is having more control options is better but they should have put it from the beginning, if the newer version of the console is more capable than the older version, early adopters wold be cheated. This means no game could really utilize the second analog in a very useful manner (like FPS games), at most it could be used to move camera. I haven't played Monster Hunter on 3DS, but on RE:Revelation the second analog is useless.

facepalm, the whole point just flew over your head there

Fact of the matter is there WILL be those who want games like COD, Battlefield, Crisis Core etc on the system. Such games will not work very well without a second nub. People like to have such an option and it's apparent devs do too. You say you aren't but you are focusing on sales here. My point is that stop focusing on sales. There will always be games that are much more suitable for dual nubs/sticks on a handheld. We have seen COD and medal of honor like games on handhelds you know. The psp ones were actually pretty decent too. With a second stick on the psp they would have been even better. This is why so many vita games have worked like a dream thanks to the second stick. This is also why I am more optimisitc about AC Liberations because the second stick is very important to such a game.

That definitely is not all you're saying. The initial post from you said something along the lines of, I hope such things stay away from my handheld and that's not what you want from it. Which is a very narrow minded pov. It's not only about you nor is it only about the most successful franchises in the history of the handheld. It's only about the simple fact that having more options for gameplay is good for gamers and devs alike. This is a fact. So stop running around that. People have every right to say where the fuck is my second nub lol or something like that

Wow awesome thread.a dog on the street would tell you that a second circle pad would be excellent and cost nintemdo less than 50 cent to put on. Third party multiplats wont be on the 3ds like assassins creed, battlefield and cod becauss it wont play well. Just look at kid icarus, a disaster to control. So much so you got a shitty plastic stand to.play it properly. It is this blind fanboy defense bull which is pathetic.

Anyone who thinks that playing assassins creed, battleifeld and CoD on 3DS - 2nd circle pad or not - would be a great experience is totally wrong anyway. 3DS isn't about those games, and I'm very happy about that.

We have a winner here. Listen to this man.

no we have no winner here because someone who only thinks handhelds/consoles have to have what he wants to play and don't need anything else what some other people would love to have for their handheld/console can never be the winner.

And who is the winner mister? the guy that always see the bad about Nintendo sytems? thats the winner for you?

not a big deal
i own Revelations and MGS3D, the first one is perfectly playeble without the CCP, with MGS3D is much more necessary to enjoy it, but its ONE game...being optional is the best choice imo

which is my point, the idea that no one wants to play those games on the go is ludicrous and ignorant, especially when we have "console" games that have sold well on portables. Metal Gear Solid PO and PW did more than a mil each. BOth GTAs for PSP. GOD CoO, KH BBS and 365 days, Tekken DR, hell MOD Heroes did 2 mil on PSP and that was without any kind of hype. If its done right people will come. Even Ninty's own history shows that a good chunk of their best selling games on portables have been nothing more than spinoffs of the console games. Mario Lands, hell GBA was just a SNES port machine(nothing wrong with that)

PW was a game built around the psp in mind, and was actually fitting for the handheld when built that way. same for BBS and 365. tekken needed a big marketing from sony to actually make it sell,TK6 underperfomed without it, and most fps, cod included, had mediocre launches and was after a bunch of pricecuts and offers that they could get good sales at a lower price.

There are games on consoles fiting for handhelds, as you said mario and fighters, but in things with fps games wich are more time consuming people or fans will stick to their consoles or wait for a pricecut.

3 mil+ MOH Heroes say your wrong. ANd the only reason why sales for COD on DS were bad, because COD on DS is kinda crap

As i said, medicore launches, even more for holiday season, it neede a reduced price to make people actually look at them it shows how much they value this genre in handhleds over console ones. And dont come and say they are good becasue they were medicore.

Wrong, MOH Heroes sold well prior to any price cuts, it went the whole first year without any and did well for itself

it went to $20 in 2007, even after holidays it barely passed the 300k in 2006. The interest on the game layed on its online coponent. A novelty that wore off giving the big drop in sales of heroes 2.

got a link?? and even if it were true. There was still interest in the game. What people picked it up just cause it was 20 bucks??? If people arent interested there not interested, no matter the price
