Forums - Gaming - Sony: Why Vita gives us an advantage over Wii U

It is confirmed that it is a streaming device. It's output comes from the Wii U console not the game pad itself.

I agree that the Wii U streams video frames to the GamePad, and that this allows for something like Pikmin 3 on very modest hardware.  But has it been confirmed that ALL output is generated solely from the console?  Note that the touchscreen remote control interface is confirmed to be usable when the Wii U is inactive.  (The grey area is that "inactive" could mean completely off, or it could simply mean asleep.  However, I feel it's a stretch to use "inactive" to describe a console that is continuously streaming content.)

Without a processor, how can the tablet of wiiU stream off the console? There must be a processor in there somewhere how weak it may be.

It's a fantastic idea, and PSV + PS4 would blow away the WiiU, but we all know it'll most likely get Move-levels of support.

Wii U's streaming is vastly superior. The price point of entry is lower on the Wii U. The U Pad has a better synergy with the console, think scoping in ZombiU, I don't think the Vita can mimic stuff like this. The U Pad has the bigger screen and better analog sticks. The U Pad has rumble feedback, NFC, IR sensors.

The Wii U is just custom build specifically to the desired experience, while the Vita is a handheld system that gets shoehorned into a new role. I own a vita but not a PS3, so if they really go with this new direction they screw people like me over.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

The big difference is that most, if not all, of the WiiU games will integrate the tablet controller, or the "GamePad", whilst very few Vita/PS3 games will do this.

Also, it's down to cost. The PS3 new costs around £180, the Vita £230, and the WiiU will cost somewhere between the two, probably.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Why won't you learn, Sony? People are nor gonna buy two devices to have a couple of games that work with both.

That said, I have both and I'd like to be able to use my Vita with my PS3. Sadly, I am in a tiny minority...

No troll is too much for me to handle. I rehabilitate trolls, I train people. I am the Troll Whisperer.

Even if they bundle the PS3+Vita for a reasonable price I still prefer the WiiU alone. And the Gamepad is capable of playing (simple) games like (3)DS games without the console so it has a reasonable CPU in it.

Apparently Sony doesn't understand the concept of games specifically made to play played in one's home.

Ohh come on they need to say all kinds of stuff just to cover that even themselves have lost faith in this device

Well, we will first need to see if the Wii U will connect to the 3DS in a similar way that the Vita connects to the PS3 and the 3DS has a processor.

It's a great idea, that if fully implemented would work really well, but I doubt it would get much support. As a vita owner I'm disappointed that with the current level of remote play supported games. Really they should start pushing it as much as possible now to steal some of the wii u's thunder.
