Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo not interested in buying Wii U exclusive titles

Thank goodness. Nintendo hasn't degraded to that level yet. This is one practice I hope they keep up.

According to Satoru Iwata, Nintendo is “open to Wii U exclusives”, but they are not willing to pay developers for it. Iwata told gaming trade publication Gamasutra that they do not wish to enter a costly bidding war with the likes of Microsoft in order to get a title exclusive to the Wii U console. However, Iwata did point out that Nintendo is very interested in partnering with third parties who have a “very unique use of the Wii U functionality”. But the company won’t flat out pay just to make a game exclusive. This might also explain why some of the recent Wii U games like ZombiU and Rayman Legends have been rumored to be in development for other platforms.

They don't need to, because they'll get them anyway.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Fantastic news in my opinion, having moneyhat auctions with other manufacturers won't end well. There is also the fact that there are very few exclusives on the home consoles this generation and I expect it to be similar in the 8th.

What Nintendo should be doing is making 3rd party WiiU development as attractive as possible, through low licensing costs and the like; and by assisting those games which are made through localisation and advertising (like what they've doing this gen with DQIX, MH3, SW3, Epic Mickey, Just Dance, Prof Layton, etc). To be honest I think that is what they will do. Even in cases such as MH3G and 4, which almost certainly required Nintendo involvement to be exclusive (4 for as far as we currently know), this was more likely done through allowing Capcom to design the CCPro and things like that, instead of just simply sending a lorry full of 100,000 Yen notes to Capcom HQ.

Well done Nintendo, dont feed the greedy 3rd parties...

But I thought they had already done that and paid Capcom on the 3ds for Monster Hunter 4?

Well, this article is about the Wii U only :P

OT: Glad to hear. Now I know that I won't be forced to buy underpowered third party titles and can rely on my future Xbox 3.
