Forums - Nintendo - Iwata: Wii U dual screen idea nearly canned, Nintendo not worried about competition

Mazty

"WiiU; a console an incredibly small market. If I was in Nintendo, I'd be looking for another job about now. Considering the competition has many of the same games the WiiU has, they should be very, very concerned. "

i think thats wishful thinking more than the reality...

At least so far every single player Wii U game that only uses the gamepad could be almost perfectly ported to the 3DS. I'd love for you to show me a game that couldn't be done with the 3DS.

Check out ZombiU, it'll give you an idea. That's just the beginning, right?

How so? Batman will be 12 months old when it comes out on the WiiU, ME3 6 months+ (and none of the prequels), colonial marines will be on the other consoles as well as AC etc etc.

I've already seen gameplay for it and what aspect wouldn't be possible on the 3DS? If the gamepad is sitting in your lap and you are also looking at the tv, the experience can be mapped perfectly. I'm not trying to bring down the Wii U, just show it's very similar to the DS concept.

They'll never say it because it's quite obvious it is not.

But I thought we heard some where that Nintendo will not be going back to the Handheld in the traditional sense? If Tablets are the handheld gaming of the future, then why not just make the Wii U tablet a handheld as well?

Because that's not what it is made for.

Um… because it would cost a lot for us of course unless you want an SD consol like the Wii and a handheld…

OT. Lol what a wall of text that was! The consoles from the other two will probably be very powerful and cost 599! Because that’s what works of course

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

You need to look at the video again, it's exhausting having to explain this repeatedly. There are cases in the game where the two screens (gamepad + TV) are superimposed. That isn't possible with a DS layout.

I'm tempted to argue why it doesn't bring anything new to the table but I'd be hypocritical to do that before trying out the feature myself.

So for now I'll agree that this is the separating feature. But why must you argue that the Wii U is so different from another Nintendo system? If anything they should try advertising it as a DS for the home. Their portables are always so successful, why not rake them in?

So, this thread is about Joel's wall posts?

I have no problem with that, I just like to call a spade a spade.

Also, I own a 3DS myself and I know for a fact that Nintendo could never pull off ZombiU with that hardware. The WiiU has alot of added value as compared to the DS/3DS, and it's my honest PoV, why would I argue against my understanding?
