So, everyone's cool with making up quotes now?

That's the whole point with friends and the other thread regarding Friend codes. In the video he clearly sent a request to start a video chat and it was approved and bam. There ya go. Nintendo also stated there would be parental locks. So i can lock my kids accounts to not do video or only with friends maybe I as the adult account approved, etc. Point is, there is NO reason to think it will be gimped and horrible like Wii's system. It will be a modern system. Maybe no "in-game chat" etc. Maybe you'll have to pause to do things like that. It already said to not have a unified trophy/achievement system. But more miiverse based with status updates and instant game sharing instead. Frankly i don't care about that anyways. So long as it has strong online play, with same game chat, and normalized username friend matching system. I'm good as well the greater majority of people. so far there is nothing to believe it won't have all of that and everything demonstrating it will. Did you see the images of the netflix app and being able to view the movies on screen or gamepad? I'm mean c'mon the system will have a solid online structure. |
the video also clearly showed miiverse accessible with smartphones... then clarified to be "not at launch". source
i have a feeling that the video was more marketing than anything. kind of like kinect's E3 where promises (or possibilities if you will) didn't quite line up with the actual product delivered to the market.

Unless you are jumping into a game, and playing them, they don't facilitate meeting new people. It isn't how it works. Sony offers Home, but Live offers... check high scores and then extend a friend invite? Thing is you can add names, but there isn't a way, outside of playing, where you can find out about them. |
this isnt FB or Twitter, its a video game console, why would i NOT want to meet people by actually playing games?

I was saying that Microsoft, in particularly, doesn't offer a way for people to find and meet people who they share similar interests in, outside of a game. Sony offered Home, but Microsoft offers nothing. Why does this matter? Well, take stuff like older XBLA stuff with leaderboards, or coop multiplayer, and it is such that, while some people do play them, they are not online when you are. Of course, someone is going to go, "Why not just play the popular stuff?" To this, I would answer, "So you are telling me my only option is to play a FPS like Call of Duty?: It is a problem. If you play a more obscure game, you don't find people for it, if they aren't on when you are. Microsoft does NOTHING to remedy this at all. They just want to make a buck off your network of contacts and do jack to have people expand this list.
To me this is simple, if you are looking forward for the Miiverse to be something like Xbox Live or PSN, save some time and go play the 360 or PS3, I own all consoles, and I do not want another Xbox Live nor PSN, Now this is the explanation you get from their website.
"Miiverse is a brand-new network communication system that lets gamers from around the world share experiences, discuss games and discover new content. Using their personalized Mii character, players enter Miiverse and see games, applications or entertainment content that either they have interacted with recently, expressed interest in learning more about or that their friends are using or discussing. From here they can challenge their friends to play together, ask a question about a difficult level or discover new elements of their favorite games they never knew existed. After a notable achievement or other share-worthy moment, players can pause their game or application and seamlessly post messages to the Miiverse community"
I guess its like a FB? that instead of status updates your achievements or level clearance gets posted, and if 2 friends are playing the same game at the same time you can join each other? you use your Mii as your profile pic? and there will be an overworld map that will work like a newsfeed? thats what I am thinking, I might be way off but oh well, lets hope its cool.

All the Nintendo fan boys are adamant that Nintendo Online has been fine for all these years so Nintendo had no reason to spend on any infrastructure or services to make it happen.
They also didn't just go and enlist Valve to make Steam the service of choice for the Wii U.
EA is building their own called Origin and Nintendo has done zip.
Don't expect to enjoy your online centric 3rd party games on Nintendo's Wii U because Nintendo doesn't care for that expense when people are willing to buy 20+ million copies of Mario Kart DS which is their stand-alone online franchise.
Hahahaha
Well, anyway, I don't think we've heard everything there is to hear about Wii U just yet, especially its online services. Can't wait to hear something significant... in a few months or whatever.

You bring up a really great point but I feel like you're bashing Microsoft a little hard and are unlikely to garner positive feedback from people easily as they'll automatically take a defensive position. :P
If Nintendo really allows us to find and connect with like-minded individuals in such a way without much barrier then that'd be pretty cool.
