Forums - Nintendo - Iwata: "PSN and Live too far developed for us to catch up"

Thanks for that list Superchunk. Maybe it is a bit overblown, but i still remain a bit sceptical, even if slightly more at ease.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

PS3 doesn't have cross game chat due to stupid RAM issues (Or so we are told...). Nintendo had plenty of time to prepare for this.

You keep saying people are over exagerrating, but then why are Reggie, Iwata and co. giving these terrible answers?

Because they are not ready to give the details yet. So they give partial answers that don't show their hand.

But you should be able to look at what's arlready shown and pull a basic idea of what should be there from that.

Its just like the damn friend code issue. They used the bad phrase that FCs are still there in a different from and people blew it out of proportion without actually thinking. All you have to do is watch the one video from pre-E3 to understand how different it really is and how modern of a system it really is. Sure Nintendo should of simply said no FCs are not there. We have a new system. Intead they like the stupid name and stuck with it and now people think they have some long code vs the usernames that were clearly shown in the videos with the clear capability to instantly make new friends and invite them to, at least for now, chats and video calls. Is it really much a stretch to think it will also be used to invite to play games? Hell you could do that with EA games on Wii.

I play Black Ops on Wii and i can invite in a group, send friend request and chat with anyone that does not mute my voice. Common sense would tell me i will surely be able to do that on Wii U. 3DS Online system is already far ahead of Wii and its not annoying so its obvious Wii U online system will be far ahead of 3DS

lol@ Pezus.

@DieAppleDie

Apology if i understood.

Glad I could help. However, I do wish Nintendo would just lay it all out there already. I mean c'mon a lot of these details they really can't be worried MSony will steal as they already do them.

Yes, it does (Vita). No cross-game chat is a limitation of the PS3, not of Sony's network. Many other features such as...? Pay to play?

Didn't know Vita did that, but seriously, who ever considers Vita in these discussions? That horse is dead.

How about things like:

watching movies with others through Live
gesture based controls
voice based controls
....

I don't own a 360 so I don't know what else to list beyond those widely known things and I'm way too lazy to google it. I also don't want to make this a Live vs PSN thread... kinda pointless. Just replying to your specific question and of course there is one big difference, PSN is free.

watching movies with others through Live        removed
gesture based controls           nothing to do with online functionality
voice based controls             nothing to do with online functionality
.

At least make an effort

Something about download speeds usually works?

I don't believe anyone is thinking it will be like the Wii. Only people don't want to hear answers that come off as laziness.

If PSN could catch up to Live throughout a generation, why can't Nintendo catch up to PSN?

But it hasn't fully caught Live. It has not cross-game chat among many other features.

Facts are maybe this is referring to things like cross-game (while actively playing the game) chat and features like Home.

We have no clue. It won't be detailed for a little while longer.

I do think people are over exagerating about many quips coming from Reggie and co.

yes it does... on ps vita

It seems somewhat like an excuse. The psn when launched also had a number of issues but this is unavoidable when starting something new and in the end it is now a system that competes well with xbox live if not necessarily surpass it. Same with the NN - they have to start getting a better system sometime and right now when they are going after the hardcore crowd, is the best time.

I read this and while it is true that Sony and Microsoft have been working on their services for years now, all I can sit and ask myself is:

What the hell have they been doing all these years?

Nintendo should of invested on this idea honestly, but now if they ever do this in the future maybe a generation or later, they'll be even more behind when the time comes.

They could easily make alot of money out of this idea with their games...I guess that is why some of their games still cost 49.99 when they've been out for years (cough Super Smash Bros. Brawl cough).

I would like them to go in depth and let us know exactly what their online service provides because to be 100% honest. Enough of this secretive crap. The damn thing is supposed to be less than 6 months away.

Nobody wants to put money down now without knowing what the hell they are buying and certainly don't want to put down the money last minute either.

Agree with you that we need to know more.

But don't agree with 'Nobody wants to put money down now without knowing what the hell they are buying and certainly don't want to put down the money last minute either."

there is a third option, put it in the bank and not down as a preorder. So when it does get closer to launch and you feel like you want the WiiU, pull the money from the bank and use it.

Not really.. all you need it user accounts, achievement's and that's about it.. not some Miiverse ballshit with a 20 digit long friend code.
