Forums - Gaming - Kotaku: Yo, Sony? Why you no first?

Kotaku

"You guys are in third place. You're a team that was in first place with the PS1, first place with PS2. Why has this generation played out differently, where you guys haven't won?"

Yeah...I couldn't be arsed to read the whole thing but I figured folks here might get a kick out of it so...GO NUTS!

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Yo, Kotaku? Y U still around?

Kotaku: bringing you news from 2006.

Occasionally, I'll read a really good article or review on Kotaku (for example, the Gravity Rush review).

And I'll think "Hmm, maybe they're not as bad as I think".

Then I'll read 5 more completely pointless articles from them, with little to no substance and think "Why did I bother?"

So yes. Shush up, Kotaku.

Hey, they ask the question that many a PS fan prefer to sweep under the rug. Now thats journalism! :)

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Yet the answer is so obvious? Price tag.

But it begs the question: Why do it when it means losing?

Sony isnt a charity. They are in theory, in it to win.

I dont see why he needs to ask..We all know the reasons, game journalists have written already a hundred articles so why adsk him stuff you already know..Plus he's not gonna say "we fucked up,we are stupid" he's a pr guy and of course he's gonna defend the views of Sony as much as possible

It's the kind of thing I've seen discussed so many times before.  Sony fucked up PS3 launch.  Overpriced, too few games, a year behind 360, Cell Architecture difficult etc.

Since the launch, year-by-year they've been clawing back into the game, to the point where it's less than 3 million behind 360.  In my opinion, that's something to be proud of.   Obviously they'd rather have had another PS2, but they've done the best they can with the system they have.

It's probably not the same people working at the top level of PS3 team that it was when it launched.  Ken is gone, even Kaz isn't overseeing it so much anymore, Jack only got promoted as the PS3 launched, etc.

Kotaku knows damn well why Sony is in third.

Nintendo coming out with the Wii, their most successful home console ever, was a major factor also. Even if Sony did more things right with the PS3's launch, it still would have had trouble taking momentum away from the Wii back in 2006.

They're in it to make money, not to 'win' some arbitrary sales war. They usually go hand in hand, but due to the high losses at the start, Sony couldn't afford to lower the price of their machine in order to regain sales.
