Annoying montages
Numbers and figures to kill stage time
Rerun of demos we saw in previous conferences. For example AC3
Ellen Page is not cool
Lack luster Vita troltles
Gameplay footage for games announced months ago, like Sony All Star Battle Royale
Book of Spells put viewers to sleep
The Last of Us looks and feels like UnchArted

2/10
Will not fuck

THANK you.  A kindred spirit.

I give it an 8. I usually try to keep my expectations in check, especially since they are always based on rumor. So, with that in mind, it was a good showing. Nothing spectacular, but nothing God awful, either. It's a shame they reserved the gameplay of Beyond and Drake/Big Daddy in All Stars for Spike TV's show. It would have been a better showing if they had just showed it on stage. Still, have to say it was better than MS's, which I give a 6.

Apparently not. But 10 million Wonderbooks is a given. At least sony thinks so.

I'd give it a 5. A supreme disapointment.

I think it was pretty darn good! All I saw from MS conference was shooters... shooters... and wait! Shooters. Well I think they balanced everything (Vita, PS3, Move) and showed some pretty footage. I am personnaly thrilled for God of War because I like the serie. 8/10, good job, not over the top but still more than decent.

If you average the comments its closer to a 4.5.

Okay, let's do this!

  • Gaming Montage (Yay! Hooray! Okay... you can stop now... seriously. You can stop now.)
  • Jack Tretton (Seemed generally pleased and spoke with humility. Kudos.)
  • PlayStation Plus (I sense that all those who attended Sony's conference will like it a bit more than the rest of us. :P)
  • Beyond: Two Souls (So that was a nice... erm... trailer. Good to see there's a new PlayStation theme with Ellen Paige.)
  • PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale (Vita support? Never saw it coming! Still, looked like a good time with friends. Wish they would have played as Nathan or Big Daddy.)
  • Black Ops: Declassified (Vita would have been better off with the actual Black Ops. Much better off. And no gameplay? Not even a teaser?)
  • Assassin's Creed III: Liberation (Looked good.)
  • Assassin's Creed III (Didn't uh... didn't we already see this an hour ago? But hey, Naval battles look fun.)
  • Far Cry 3 (So Sony... Ubisoft had a conference a couple hours ago...)
  • Wonderbook (Well that went on for way too long. Nifty idea for younger folks though.  And I admit that I laughed when they came under technical difficulties. XD)
  • Self Depreciating Jokes (Well Sony, your conference would be a lot more impressive if you yourself didn't spoil everything before hand. But at least you realize it.)
  • God of War: Ascention (For the fans, it's another God of War! Hooray! For the rest of us, it's another God of War. Okay.)
  • The Last of Us (Solid. Very solid. A very gripping gameplay demo. It looks like it's going to be a classic.)

Smeags' Score: 6/10 (Above Average)

While there were some solid gameplay demos (with the highlight being The Last of Us), Sony's insistance of announcing most of the surprises before E3 started really hurt the conference's wow factor. Vita support was surprisingly absent, and Wonderbook lasted way too long (but it did provided some unintentional laughs). In the end, it wasn't a home run, but unlike Microsoft there was a heavy focus on the games.

I give Sony a 7/10 which is what I gave MS this year too. The two press conferences where basically he same. The only difference was games. So fans of Sony will say it was better and fans of Xbox will say it was better because each side they got the games they wanted. But each spent more time pitching other markets than the most hardcore games. Smart for business, but not for hardcore gamers who just want 2 hours of kick ass trailers. Personally I'm more excited for Halo 4 than anything, but as press shows go they were both 7/10.
