Forums - Microsoft - Did Microsoft just make Nintendo's Wii U tablet irrevelant?

Well not irrelevant but certainly a stomp on the little toe. I like the fact that I can use third party smartphones and tablets. But it's more an add on while with the Wii U tablet controller it's an essential feature bar some games that will rely more on the pro pad.

In both cases the Wii U tablet / Smart Glass are fairly irrelevant unless you are playing multi-player games where hiding your strategy is important. They might spur a few new improvements to games, but nothing earth shattering...

I like the MS approach more... I don't need another gaming peripheral at home. Let me pick up my smart phone or a tablet to accomplish much the same thing... It may not be everything that Wii U is, but it does the major things I would kind of, sort of, but really don't care about...

A MS fan trying to deny the the possibilities of Wii U gamepad? Surprising.

The Wii U gamepad has alot of things it can add to genres besides multi-player games. You may want to deny itor not see it  , but that's how it is.

I have a Wii and I will buy the Wii U as well (Heck I also have a 3DS, PS3, and Vita < I also own every exclusive game for these consoles/handheld with a metacritic rating above 80%).

I just don't think the Wii U controller will be earth shattering.  Yes, MS is my favourite console, but that doesn't mean I can't be objective and that I don't want or play other consoles/handhelds.  Your right, I won't see it, I will instead experience it because I will own it...

Your all missing the point, Microsoft is aiming to destroy Sony, playing around with tablets, even if its highly unlikely to be effective makes ports between Wii U and Xbox/NextBox easier, more than likely. Does Sony jump on the bandwagon started by Nintendo, or try their own drum again, and if they do, does Microsoft eat their lunch in the console world? Could happen.

Smart Glass itself is a joke, heck they might as well try and release a smart glass app for the wii u, so its controller will work on thier xbox.

This idea of smartglass making Gamepad irrelevant is very trolling. I dissaprove.

NINTENDO

nintendo forever . . .

To sooth posters maybe the word irrelevant is a harsh word. Yet the fact of the matter is one of the big sales deals of the Wii U was the tablet controller. Smart Glass negates a great deal of what set the tablet controller apart with a cross platform solution that will guarantee a much larger market share for the Xbox 360 and a device than the Wii U will have for a bare minimum of a year (assuming Wii U takes off and tablet/smartphone market just plain dies).

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Ipad as a controller? pffff what else, movies and other multimedia
nothing related to gaming
Smarglass IS irrelevant

It didn't make the WiiU irrelevant, but it made its tablet irrelevant. Big difference.

I disagree. That would be true if every 360 sold had come with smart glass, but that isn't the case. It's an add on. An add on releasing 7 years into a consoles cycle, that never bodes well for support. Every WiiU comes with tablet controller. Developers don't have to account for a splintered userbase.

I don't have 3 arms how am I suppose to play videogames with an xbox controller and a tablet/smartphone at the same time?

Goro, Sheeva, and Kintaro could do it. I'm just saying....

One will likely be used predominantly for apps, the other will be used predominantly for gaming. I know which one I'd rather have.
