Forums - PC - Gamers petition for Diablo III offline gaming patch

Instead of a $60 leash

We must admit that we never expected Blizzard to resort to lousy DRM methods, especially ones that have already proven to be more than a bit faulty. Unfortunately, the company did just that with Diablo III, but it seems to have brought about quite a loud response from the masses.

Namely, gamers have put up a petition for a patch that would allow playing single player campaigns in offline mode. Quite understandably we’d say, since no internet connection means you can’t play the game you splashed out $60 on.

While the method may make sense someday, it’s far from the best option at the moment. Global internet coverage is still not at the level some companies think it is, and that’s without considering people that travel often and want to kill some time with their favorite game.

You can find the petition here.

I'll gladly sign it but I personally don't see Blizzard giving a shit. The amount of blind fanboyism on their forums is nauseating.

Yeah, I doubt this will amount to much, although I would like to play Diablo3 without being online. I've signed it, but I'm not holding my breath.

Stop whining ***heads. It is an effective of avoiding piracy so far. Every game should use this

Because buying the game and being at the complete mercy of login and connection issues is how you stop piracy.

Offline mode would be good for those who don't want to go online. I'd prefer to play with my friends so I probably wouldn't use it much, but the option for it would be preferred. Especially when I could hardly login for the first week.

I don't think they'll give a shit with that much money already made. Just suck it up until Torchlight 2 comes out.

Look at the demand for LAN in SC2, and that has FAR more use and also more pressure because the outcome of $100,000 tournaments are riding on it (disconnects etc). Blizzard never moved on it.

They're even less likely to on D3 because online is necessary for item consistency. They want the supply limited and cheating gone so that RMAH can work and your game experience means something (so you keep coming back).

I'll also sign it. But its more likely that hackers will fix this before blizzard.
