Forums - Nintendo - Do you think Wii U/3DS will be better than Wii/DS?

Which gen will be the best?

Wii U/3DS 76 70.37%

Wii/DS 15 13.89%

Atari 2600 (just wanna see the results) 17 15.74%

Total:108

Hi, people of VGC.

I think 8th gen is really bright for Nintendo.  They seem to care for the gamer this time around.  The 3DS has awesome hardcore titles.  The Wii U looks very promising.  I guess this gen will be awesome for the hardcore gamers @ Nintendo!

I also think that the 3DS is pretty powerful for an handheld.  I was really impressed by Kid Icarus' graphics!  Sure it's not a PS Vita, but the 3DS can still amaze me!

Wii U/3DS or Wii/DS ?  Which is the best gen?

Wii U is going to be a sweet system. I think this thing is going to be some of the most fun I've had in years.

Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.

Right now Wii/DS are a better choice, because WiiU is not even out yet!
seriously, usually next gen are always better, and i say usually cause i think Sony consoles dont follow that trend

imo Psx > Ps2 > Ps3

Also nostalgia factor is a very strong one, for me N64 is the best N console, that doesnt necesarily means that is the best, its just the one i loved more.

I would say that WiiU has the potential to be one of the best consoles ever, i hope they dont focus on the core gamer too much XD

About the DS vs 3DS, well its hard to say, the DS has an amazing library , with tons of jrpgs, a genre i love, i think is going to be dificult for the 3DS to have a vg library that good, huge and varied
On the other hand, the graphical bump is huge, the 3D is amazing and the features and online service are much better and since is backwards compatible i could say that the 3DS has already surpased the DS!

I already like the 3DS more than I liked the DS, so I think it will be safe to say the Wii U will be better than the Wii. The biggest reason I think this is because Nintendo is finally getting its online act together. The eShop, selling retail games digitally, only one friend code per system, and so on.

Nintendo still doomed?

They care about the gamer in this new generation because they have to.  Tablets and smartphones are drawing away all the casuals who bought Brain Age or Cooking Mama for DS.   The core gamers like us who love Zelda and Metroid are the people who are going to buy launch-price Wii U's, a lot of games over a 5 year cycle,  accessories, all of which will produce a lot of revenue for Nintendo.  The casuals buy the system, most of which are after a price drop, and they only buy a small number of games.  So Nintendo's only hope now of doing a bare minimum of at least GameCube-level performance is to make games that we will pay $60 day one.

There is no way in my mind that the 3ds will end up selling 150million units and Wii U 96million.

With the 3ds, there is now allot more competition from mobiles.
For Wii U, the main reason the Wii was so successfull is because it was by far the cheapest system and it was the only system at the time that could attract casual gamers. Wii U will be much more expansive, granted that it may be the cheapest system once again once the ps4 and Xbox3 launch, but M$ and Sony made it pretty clear that they will also go after casual gamers, stealing some of their market (especially M$ cause Sony is rly failing at it atm)

That being said, I don't think in anyway that Nintendo is doomed. It will do rly good, I predict around 60 million to possibly 75 million for Wii U, and probably 85 to 90 million for 3DS. Both will be big success, it's just that Wii and DS were phenomenal success that will be probably impossible to beat now in the current state of this industry.

EDIT: Nevermind all that nonsense I just said. I missread the OT as ''Do you think Wii U/3DS will sell better than Wii/DS'' lol. Big fail from my part. Now to answer the OT, yes, Wii U will be much better, 3DS not so sure but I think it will be slightly better.

Post about your signature,  not actually related to thread:  It's a shame about Dr. Paul not getting the nomination, but I think he should go third party.  I'll vote for him either way, but if he went third party I think a lot of people would be surprised how many votes he would take from Obama supporters, not just Romney.

3DS' ceiling is probably around 60-70 million.  Look at how badly it's selling in NA/Europe in the off-season, even with Kid Icarus and Mario Tennis being out.  NA is supposed to be 3x bigger than Japan with Nintendo sales, and we're doing worse than Japan right now.  I think smartphone/ tablets have hurt Nintendo in NA a lot more than anywhere else, and I think Nintendo's only hope to even reach 70 million within four years is to pump out as many AAA franchise games as possible.  That's all they can do at this point.  Handheld market is completely different than it was in 2004 when DS launched.

I had a Wii for one year only, so I don't really know how was it.

But if 3DS + WiiU surpass the DS alone I'll be impressed. I really don't think they can. They're off to a good start, but the way is still very very long!

Heck, DS surpassed the SNES for me and became the best ever! Passed a system with Mario World, DKC, Super Metroid, Star Fox, FFVI and Link to The Past... blows my mind!

Why are you so quick to assume he won't get the nomination? Last I checked he was still in the race to get the nomination and is picking up more and more delegates as states actually hold their conventions. If people assume he can't win, like the main stream news wants you to believe, they he doesn't stand a chance. The national convention in Tampa should be very interesting to say the least, and I think a lot of people will be surprised. Also, I doubt he will run as 3rd party if he doesn't get the republican nomination. Gary Johnson already has the libertarian nomination, which is another good choice as opposed to Romney or Obama who are more of the same.

On topic: I really hope developers make great use of the Wii U controller and don't just add things just for the sake of adding them. Some games made great use of the wii's motion controls, but motion controls were not always necessary. Can't wait until E3 to see what devs come up with. :)
