Forums - Nintendo - IF Nintendo does not impress at E3 this year will Nintendo fail in the West? Change of opinion now?

The fact that a new console is being displayed and a few 3rd party games are confirmed means that there is no way it could be worse than E3 2008.

After August, the 3DS will be at its second holiday with a marquee Mario game and a few other 1st party efforts. This holiday at $170 may be the biggest one it ever has.

lol there is no way they won't impress people this E3

people they won't impress are those who hate the company no matter what it does

But radish, the question is why do we have to go month to month waiting for releases at all? The other guys get a game a week it seems. In an age where takers do not have to wait for anything anymore, waiting for a good Nintendo game is redonkulous!

Also last E3 was not supposed to be that great for Nintendo. The Wii was dying even back then and so was the DS and 3DS. Then the Wii U made a surprise appearance and Nintendo still failed to get anyone hyped.
Instead we got what seemed like hours of Zelda symphony talk. It was cool I guess... How many takers under the age of 40 want to hear any of that though? Zeldas anniversary sucked! Especially compared to Mario and Kirby's.

Are we Nintendo fans just lying to ourselves? I hope Nintendo does blow me out of the water this year, but I will not get my hopes up after years of betrayal. The good does out weigh the bad though, and that is why I stay.

I'm happy that they haven't released all their big titles over here yet- they need to be more spaced out to ensure maximum sales potential

I don't know, they are kind of few and far between as it is. Mario Tennis Open > Kid Icarus: Uprising > MGS 3DS > Resident Evil

Did I miss any?

So in the last 4 months we have got a Mario Sports game, which does not automatically equal sales or anyone caring about, we got a Port of an old PS2 game that has been ported before, Kid Icarus which does not have a mass appeal and it even scared away some core gamers with its control style, and we have Resident Evil  Revelaions. Pretty much the only one that appealed to a lot of gamers there is Resident Evil, and it sold So so. At this time the games are too far apart. I am sure D21 is bored out of his mind. No wonder he has picked up tablet gaming.

This time of year is always slow for game releases-  we've got so much stuff coming closer to the Christmas season; the 3DS is going to explode!

Even with an uneventful E3, they would be fine. The 3DS is seeing no competition from the Vita (sadly) and The Wii U is about to bring all the tablet lovers. Hell, they could not appear on E3 and still be fine. All they gotta do is release Mario game #75 and LoZ: Ocarina of Time #5 and their set for the next few years and Pokemon...Which is cool cause pokemon is still awesome :D

That has got to change. I just went for a stroll on over to IGN to see what they have reviewed Nintendo wise over the past 25 games.

They gave Mario Tennis Open a 6.5

No Nintendo fan can seriously be happy about this situation. For Gods sake! They have RolStoppable playing import games just to keep him occupied. Desperate times calls for desperate measures I guess.

Oh and this is for some of the rest of you in this thread. Remember that this poster is a Nintendo gamer. See what he thinkgs of the Wii U so far.

I'm pretty sure that Oni is a Sony fan

Anyway, at the moment the 3DS doesn't have much coming except Nintendo games - I think that at E3 we'll see some exciting 3rd party announcements, but in the meantime, you can't blame Nintendo for not wanting to release all of their big guns within a couple of years after the 3DS's release. Soon enough we'll have Pokemon and 2D Mario, and everything will be fine again - just have some patience, man!

Nintendo will be fine, the Wii U looks promising and no matter how much Sony and MS fans deny it the Wii U is more powerful than the ps3 and 360, and I'm still not convinced that both companies will go all high tech next gen.

Also, Iwata already said that core gamers comes first, then the casual, so if Nintendo keeps it promise the Wii U could be a great success, but first impressions are always the most important so at E3 they have to impress everyone and show us all the amazing things the system can do.

Nintendo and PC gamer

Yeah E3 2006 showed the importance of first impressions. It really does reflect what the market will do for the first year. Sony failed to impress and the section of their boot for the PS3 really reflected it. A modest line the first day and virtually empty the rest of the show. Nintendo on the other hand had day long waits each day.

All in all I expect they will do fine. They just need a good show, they don't exactly need a 2006 E3 type of show, but they should do better than what Sony did that year.

Exactly.

Don't underestimate the importance that a really great E3 show can have on the general public, guys.  The 4hr+ wait to play the Wii in 2006 didn't go unnoticed.  That overwhelmingly positive reaction carries over to the general public.

EDIT:  That said, to answer the OP, no, it doesn't mean it'll fail in the west.

OP - Your kidding right?
