max payne did okay sales wise. not bad,but nothing amazing though,other wise boring numbers in my opinion.

Nintendo have played this best; get out a new console after 6 years to create a healthy lead, garner 3rd party support and leave the opposition having to catch up, just like with the 3DS. It doesn't need to be more technically advanced were there to be games and for it to be cheaper than the competition, after all.

I agree. Look at how bad Wii performed last year compared to other years. Look at it now, horribly bad now. If Wii U released in November or early December of last year there would be nothing to worry about and they could be making tons of money.

That could be true, but what you fail to realize is that 14 million people bought PS3s in 2011. These people are new to PS3, so they'll get bored of it in 2016 xD.

No one said 10-year gen, they said 10-year support. Which is what the PS2 got.

Yes, and this year it is down heavily YoY. It'll sell 11mil this year, probably. Next year will be worse, so 7 mil, then 4-5mil. Then, according to their plan, a new console will be released.

Is it feasible to be selling so poorly before releasing a new console? I don't believe so. And it doesn't matter when you buy it (I bought a SNES a few months ago), it matters to the business to maintain sales and cashflow, and the 10 year plan doesn't support this.

It will easily do more than 11 million this year. It might even do 14 million. Even if it's down YoY remember that PS3 was down YoY last year too.

Holidays, + the october time usually is when the PS3 shines.

The 10-year life cycle does make sense. The PS3 has been up YoY since launch. This may be the first year where the PS3 will be down YoY, and it still won't be terribly down. Next year will be when the PS3 drops too low for it to be the main platform. And that's when Sony will likely release the PS4. You don't release a neww console when the current is in its peak. You release it when it's a few years after it's peak. That's what Sony is doing.

The 10-year thing just means Sony will support the PS3 until 2016, which may or may not prove smart depending on how developing countries recieve it.
