Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft just made $1 billion!

If you are playing a game like that...you really aren't a core games which is a lot of what this is about. How Microsoft has failed to provide for the core and hardcore gamers. Mario has games for everyone, Vina Pinata is just a game for children. I could be so much harsh but really it's just deeply disappointing how little Microsoft is investing for their platform and I just want them to. That's why I love Sony and will always follow them because they actually care. Nintendo too.

What makes you think that core games are the better games?

I am playing games since 1992 I guess and I love the variety gaming offers. Look at the games I bought last holiday season:

  • Rage
  • Batman Arkham City
  • Halo CEA
  • Kinect Sports
  • Dance Central 2
  • Gears of War 3
  • Sonic Free Riders

4 "core" games and 3 "casual" titles. And guess what, I played them all. There is nothing wrong with playing Dance Central and killing hordes of locusts afterwards. You should be more open minded. You are missing tons of great games.

Most of that list doesn't even count. Making Kinect games just helps the Kinect out and values casual gamers. Sony only needs a few developers for all of that. They need experienced, talented developers that make core games. Sony is just another league when it comes to their talent from their studios. Microsoft really only has a few developers worth anything. Even Rare is nothing now. The Fable series is all but dead so Lionhead needs something new. Microsoft has to get some real studios that can make core games, new IP's and bring back old IP's and they just aren't doing that. They aren't even attemping it......

Lol. What do you mean it doesnt count? games are games. No matter what platform theyre made for. WTF??

No, when you have most of your studios just making casual games and supporting other teams, it doesn't hold value. You need top talent studios like Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, Sucker Punch, Guerilla, etc. Microsoft really only has 343 which only makes Halo. The big Sony studios are creating multiple games now.

No. It doesn't matter what a studio does, they still are valuable and they and their games count. You need to get off your high horse and realize that just because you don't like it, doesn't mean many, many others do.

I liked the Fable is dead part. Fable on Xbox 360 sold 8.8 million copies (Just Fable II and III) accoridng to VGC. If you include digital distribution it easily passed 10 million. That is pretty massive for 2 games on one console isn't it?

http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/13/fable-2-episodic-experiment-deemed-massively-successful-by-mol/

Actually Fable series on 360 alone without Fable: Heroes and digital copies outsold Killzone series and InFamouse series combined. You get the idea.

And we need to stop with "Game X / studio X does not count, because they make only Kinect/downloadable games". I own 7 Kinect games I spent about $300 on and I enjoyed them for the most part. How can these titles not count?! And don't get me started with downloadable games. I had some of the best gaming experiences of this generation thanks to downloadable titles! (Braid, Plants vs Zombies, Risk, Shadow Complex, Sonic classics, Monkey Island, Splosion Man, Trials etc).

I personally don't like LBP at all. It is a plattformer with a map-editor. I have seen this back in 1996 and to me it is not innovative at all. Of course the share online is new, but 99.9% of the user generated content really sucks. But that is just IMO. I would never tell anybody that does not like the game that it does not count.

MS hired a lot of talent in the past 24 months and I can't wait to find out, what they are working on. On the other hand, Sony lost 2 first party and 1 second party studio. Zipper and BigBig are gone and Insomniac is multiplat now.

The Fable series has been one of the most bundled series for the 360, surely you aren't serious? and yes, Killzone has been bundled but not that much at all.  Microsoft is killing Fable. I hear more and more from most of its fans how much gets taken away which each game and how each sequel fails to live up to the hype.  Now by destroying their IP with a casual downloadable game and a kinect game for a core gamer franchise, it won't be long before Fable is done. Plus, Peter is gone anyways.

Are these studious meaningless? No never said that and obviously for the casual market it's of great benefit but MS has wasted far too much money on casual development studios when they need core games! Despite the success of the Kinect, Microsoft isn't ever going to compete with Nintendo for the casual market....ever. While they have been screwing themselves over by ignoring the core games and establishing IP's, Sony continues to win over the core games with the sheer amount of exclusives, IP's and support for core games.

Also, LittleBigPlanet is hailed for it's innovation. It's a platform to make games, not just a casual game that holds zero value to any core gamer.

Fable II and Fable III sold 1 million copies in their first week. This is way bigger than most of the Sony franchises. actually only God of War and Gran Turismo passed that milestone in week 1. So you think Killzone, Infamous, LBP, Twisted Metal, Starhawk etc are all dead as well?!

While the first part is completely true (think I mentioned it earlier in the thread that it's great Microsoft is creating so many new studios), mentioning that Sony lost Insomniac and not saying anything about Microsoft losing Bungie is kinda silly.

I absolutely love Insomniac, I'd say they're one of my top 3 development teams of all time, but Sony losing them is less of a blow than Microsoft losing Bungie.  Plus, you never know what would happen in the future - Insomniac seem really, really keen on the Ratchet IP which is owned by Sony, so we may see them under some kind of exclusivity deal for the future (they managed to work on Ratchet & Resistance at the same time this generation, so Overstrike & Ratchet wouldn't be a stretch for next gen).

But I guess we'll see, anyway!

seriously get off your high horse you have no right to express your disatisfaction, the fact remains that the games you don't appreciate are loved by others and that should be good enough for you
