Play it. Definitely. It has the strongest plot of the three games. That said, it also has the weakest mechanics.

Fortunately, if you play it on PC, it smooths out most of the glitches you find on the Xbox version, and is a measurably better experience (and a prettier one). If you don't have that option, it's playable enough on Xbox, but be prepared for slowdown in big fights, poor shooting mechanics, a poor user interface, and quite a lot of long load times and texture loading.

I can live with that, though. I love the game. Absolutely adore it. Completed it on 360 and PC more times than I'm willing to divulge, and am happy to admit it's my favourite of the series (followed by ME2, then ME3 -- ME3's end ruined the game for me, for all the incredible highs it offered).

Wow, thanks for all the feedback and replies. If I had a gaming PC or even a semi decent PC that could run Mass Effect and that doesn't crap out because compaq sucks, I'd certainly play it on that but I don't sadly.

I'm not new to RPG's at all. Fallout 3 is one of my favorite games of all time, I beat and just did just about everything in Oblivion, I've sunk like 70 hours into New Vegas without any of the DLC or finishing the game which I plan on doing, and I have done everything in Skyrim with like over 200 hours.

I've also played Pokemon of course, I played Valkyria Chronicles and though frustrating at times I loved that game and enjoyed the challenge of using strategy and tactics. I do hope the second game and the 3rd game gets dubbed and brought over to the states in a collection for the PS3.

This past month, I've started the Final Fantasy series with 7. It took me time to understand it but I love the story, music, characters and everything.

I've evolved into a well varied gamer and played quite a bit of RPG's so yes, I'm very familiar with the genre.

I just have one more thing I need help with....I could get Mass Effect 2 on 360 but I really don't feel like buying all of the dlc for it and I'm mostly a PS3 gamer anyways, so will it be fine if I just switch over to PS3 after the first game and can the comic mostly reflect well on choices and your character from the first game?

It's not super amazing, but it's worth playing.

Play the first one, its by far the better RPG of the three. It has some weaknesses but its a really good game and easily worth it. It also helps you understand and appreciate the setting and game universe a lot more.

Play it. Mass Effect is a fantastic game. It's a little rough around the edges compared to ME2 and ME3, but it's still one of the very best RPGs around.
