Forums - Gaming - Pachter Says “Casual Gamers Are Never Buying Consoles Again.”

Pachter did a fantastic job at how he worded this statement:

1) He didn't put a qualifier, so technically he can say he didn't mean "all"
2) How does he define a casual player? He could very well say "oh, well if they DO pick it up, then they're not casual anymore."

Still, I dislike his statement.

And in regards to Apple, if (more likely when) they continue to integrate the iPad/iTV gaming experience and supplement it with a proper controller, dedicated consoles are far more likely to experience an increasing shift to a smaller, core gamer centric market.

people will be quick to bash pachter (you guys always do) but when next gen releases and everyone does terrible please remember your statements.

What if they do terrible for reasons different than Pachter's inane blather?

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Casuals is too specific. There are actually a number of people who acts simply on impulse. Most infomercials thrives on this very specific reason. It is hard to tell how these individuals will actually act once they see Wii U, which will all depend how Nintendo markets the Wii U

I'm guessing what he means is that anyone who bought a Wii exclusively for Wii Sports and/or Wii Fit won't be buying another game console.

He just prefers to word things in such a way that ruffles as many feathers as possible within the game community as it keeps him relevant.

agreed.

lots of casual gamers wont need to go anywhere near a console again... particularly handhelds.

cue head in sand reactions and the usual which would be ok if pacheter had just murdered their mothers.

Why the hell cant people see that this is patently obvious?

Deep down they know the truth, but they are in denile.

When apple release the iTV and you can plug iPads, iPhones etc. into them and they release a xbox 360/ ps3 style controller, then the home console market will fall to pieces..

Theyve done that, and they haven't done a single thing other than the driving game since its release in 2007. No dev wants to touch it, it's too risky. The odds of people having an iphone and Apple TV are slim, Apple won't release a controller because it contradicts everything the company is working for which is simplicity, and Apple Tvs are not selling well at all. Last year it sold something like 4 million, thats a very small number. People aren't interested in the product compared to other Idevices.

Pachter is wrong. Let's all join the bandwagon!

There are atleast 50 million hardcore gamers worldwide, big enough of a population to sustain hardcore gaming for generations.

Oh, they're at least 75 million! And that's if all of them have two consoles each... I'd say there'r somewhere between 100-150 million gamers out there

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.
