Forums - General - What defined the 90s for you?

I remember all that analog technology that sucked ass. And the modem noises. And the crappy TVs with shit resolutions, mixed up colours, snow... And using a pen to rewind cassettes. And tapes on camcorders. And having to use a phone booth. And the first 3D games looking like cardboard cut-out pieces of shit. And computers being huge and having 256 colours. And blue-and-red 3D glasses. And pay-as-you-go Internet when downloading 10mb meant paying significantly more. And when I was trying to watch a 2min video online and I had to wait 2h to be able to watch it but then my grandma made a call after 1h50 min and screwed up my evening.

I know it was my childhood and there is some notalgia involved... but it sucked.

Comedy was good though (Simpsons, Seinfeld)

hard times, yet good memories.  (still hard times for technology lovers).

It was even worse when you wanted to film a movie with a camcorder.  You had to film all in order and if you made a mistake, you had to rewind the tape, pause it at the very right moment, and record again.

It was a pain in the ass.

THE SIMPSONS!!!
Dragon Ball Z!!!
Seinfeld, Friends, X-files........good times.

Moving out to live in a dorm, getting a well paying programming job 3 years later and spending all my money on filling the 12x10 ft room full of the latest technology. Laserdisc, S-VHS, Yamaha DPS AX-1, B&W 603 speakers, Rel subwoofer, 2nd hand CRT projector on a white washed wall, first dvd drive to watch dvds via pc, nvidia shutter glasses for full room 3D effects, first digital camcorder. Everything cross connected to watch tv on the pc, mix cd music with pc games and play pc games on the wall.

Birth of home surround sound, Dolby digital, DTS. Birth of the internet. Birth of 3D games and fps. Adventure games still got the big budget treatment. Silly cd-rom and later dvd games, Phantasmagoria, 7th guest, Tex murphy overseer. Going from 320x200 256 colors to 1600x1200 16.7 million colors. Importing movies on Laserdisc and dvd before they arrived in the movie theaters in the Netherlands.

Going to huge trance parties, Innercity, Dance Valley, Tiesto, Ferry Corsten.

Star wars was still good. X-wing and Tie fighter games! Civilization, Dune 2, Command & Conquer, Warcraft, Age of Empires, Myst, Frontier Elite, Diablo, Dungeon Keeper, FF7, MGS, Baldur's gate, Half-Life, Grim Fandango.

Obviously I did not have a girlfriend in the 90's

I love hearing every generation talk about how the cartoons they watched as children were good but how all modern cartoons suck.

News flash: you watched a lot of shitty cartoons as a kid. Most of the cartoons you watched were terrible. This is a universal truth of life. Every generation has a handful of good/great cartoons while the rest were complete and utter shit.
