Yeah as long as the games are $20 and under and are big enough they will sell.

I'd love to however see a company try releasing a game like Halo, as download only and see how many copies it sells. It won't be even close to what it could accomplish in retail.

Fact is XBLA is great for games that are $20 or less and not too big in size to download (1 gig or less in general) but the real test is selling $50+ titles that are 6+ gigs in size like hotcakes. MS really needs to start allowing day 1 digital/retail release.

It's just that simple.

XBLA is on fire at the moment!

2 weeks ago Trials: Evolution broke the 1st week sales record, and this week minecraft took the record from Trials! This is a sign of the digitalised future of gaming, and sales for XBLA and other console marketplaces will go from strength-to-strength from here....

Microsoft has created a great, viable platform for the digital distribution of quality games, and the success in shown in the fact the Minecraft 360 was profitable within one hour of release! I wonder how this is doing in comparison to Nintendo and Sony's online marketplaces?

What do you, the vgchartz microsoft community (if there is any), think about this?

Microsoft loves buying up timed-exclusive releases. So if Minecraft would have been more successful on PSN, we'll never know.

Even if it releases sometime next year on PSN, most the core gamer community already bought in XBL....

I have 75 XBLA games thus far (been buying XBLA games for 5 years)

With another bunch of SEGA classics on the way, and the above mentioned games (plus the likes of Tony Hawks HD & Dust: An Elysian Tail ect on the way too), i will reach 100 easily by the end of the year.

On fire?....... indeed.

No for me. Its my first buy for my Xbox online. And so does 10 others of my friends.

Your post read like a press release.

And it has less to say about the future of digitalization, but moreso the fact that two sure popular games were released back to back.

summer of arcade isnt even here yet :)

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Yeah its been an insane year already for XBLA and as sales2009 pointed out summer of arcade hasn't even arrived yet.

Get ready for more inbound awesomeness. Last year we got Bastion during SOA and that game was unbelievably good.

I recently had a dig through XBLA in marketplace and it's interesting to follow the history back along and see how the games have changed over the years. Seeing releases like Shadow Complex and the total change in quality after that was quite interesting. Before then was mostly classic arcade ports and the odd game like Braid. Not a bad thing mind you, arcade classics with online scoreboards was one of the main reasons I picked up a 360.

Anyway the library there is outstanding, far too many games for me to keep up with and my purchased backlog is out of control. I think MS would do well to ensure that library is transparently usable on the next xbox generation.
