Forums - Sony - Expecting a price dorp at E3?

(Regarding Vita)

Personally, I see an announcement of bundling memory cards with consoles, so I guess that could count as a $20 drop- but I'm not expecting an actual reduction in the stand-alone console. I think that Sony should wait until the Christmas period + release games before cutting the price - something which I think Nintendo should have done too, but I guess they really wanted to expand their headstart before Vita arrived.

Are you expecting a price drop at E3?

If so, how much?

If not, when will the price drop?

Is it the right decision?

I think Sony will wait and see how well the Vita sells after its got some popular 1st/3rd part games on there (CoD, AC etc.). If it still doesn't sell well, maybe a price drop early 2013, and if it does sell, maybe holidays 2013.

A price drop in the tune of bundling is Sony's MO at least for the PSP. But that will mean nothing if they can not get games that warrant the purchase of the machine for more than Sony diehards because the media capabilities are not going to carry the machine. It needs games and a wide a varied selection from more than their 1st parties and Japanese developers.

no, i'm expecting a price derp at E3

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

That forecast is an ABSOLUTE confirmation of a price drop soon.

To be honest I don't think they have a choice, if sales don't pick up massively soon they'll loose 3rd party support if that happens the Vita is as good as dead.

Dorp... yeah!

Not if they have a MH or Final Fantasy that will be out by winter, and if they do maybe we'll see a small cut announced at TGS

Sony is between the proverbial rock and a hard place.

It has to sell X number of units at price P to meet its financial projections.
If it lowers P (price), it must sell increase X (units sold) to reach the same financial projections.

Meanwhile, it hopes to use game unit profits to fund the company -- so it has a critical balancing act.

If it cannot get some key third party games, it might be closer to "game over" than some people would want to admit. And that would be bad for all and bad for the industry.

With the projection they made, they need a price drop to reach it, but can Sony really afford a price cut?

They have no major games out for the Vita right now...Maybe they have some evergreen software to announce at E3 or a Monster Hunter.
