Forums - Sales - Media Create Sales: Week 18; April 30-May 6

Blimey, Sony REALLY need to have some system selling software announced for the Vita at E3 next month otherwise it's going to start to have some serious problems with third party support during the next couple of years. How long before we see a 3DS-esque panic price cut from Sony..? :o/

And the word Nintendomination would have been more apt for the Media Create list last week, 8 3DS titles and 1 DS title in the top 10. Staggering.

Let's not expect too much from Nintendo. They have proven that they don't know how to do business. If they can get out a redesign by August, then that's good enough by current standards.

No, I think that's unprecedent in the industry, even the dumbest of decisions on redesigns aren't announced two months before release. I mean, they're not bright, but they're not monkeys! Leaks don't count, but Nintendo is very good with leaks, so if the redesign is for E3, which is probable, it'll be released on June, no doubt about it! But Wii U will be the star, so 3DS lite only announced 2 weeks before NSMB2 releases, imo.

Nothing more to say than... Nintendomination! Even though the boosts were not quite as high as I expected.

But... 9:1 on Golden Week...

This May things are going to get pretty ugly. Not a single Vita release and Mario and DQ for 3DS! Prepare yourselves for the worst.

I bet something 20:1 on DQ week, not kidding

Hopefully the new white psvita can keep its sales stable then. :P

Bet with gooch_destroyer, he wins if FFX and FFX-2 will be at $40 each for the vita. I win if it dont

The DS Lite launched in Japan in late February/early March 2006 and it took until June until it was released worldwide. So that's that.

Considering the Circle Pad Pro incident, a redesign must be underway, so the only question is how soon will it release. An announcement two weeks before NSMB2 releases isn't out of the question, because at the end of July Nintendo will post their financial results for the first quarter.

Regardless of how Nintendo is going to handle it, an August launch would be the best way to go about it, thus building momentum for the holiday season.

Do you mean you expect the redesign to have a second analog nub? Or something else..

But back then we didn't had the internet to know those things :P

(ok, that was stupid on their part, I give you that! But I just care about japan sales (kinda) - so, when DS lite was announced, before the actual lauch, do you know?

I definitely expect a second Circle Pad and I think that quite a few people don't buy a 3DS now, because they don't want to buy a peripheral (and everyone knows that handhelds are poised to get redesigns over time).

Additional shoulder buttons I am not sure about, but they might be included in a redesign as well. Something like better battery life is a given and the Start, Select and Home buttons will probably see a change as well.

Hmm, maybe, but they'll receive much, but incredible backlash from previous users... maybe to the point of another Ambassador's thing. How would they overlap this, you think? Circle pad pro for free?

Interesting, I'm not sure Nintendo are ready to double down on that second analogue, but I suppose those left behind would just be forced to buy a cheap CCP. Other than that I'd prioritise a better screen and as you said longer battery life, and of course making it look like an Apple product can't hurt.

On January 26th 2006, so at Nintendo's investors briefing. The DS Lite launched in early March.

I guess I'm wrong then. I thought redesigns worked the same as price cuts. But I guess people in the real world don't care about these things until they see it on the store.

^Hmm, time will tell, but I would be more pissed at this than at the price cut incident, myself. You can't really access the buttons well with CCP too, so that complicates even more for some games...

Anyway:
Good press for Nintendo, not so good for Sony:

Newest Japanese Sales: Nintendo Destroys All
3DS outsells Vita 9:1.
by Colin Moriarty
May 9, 2012

As always, Japanese firm Media Create has released its weekly sales data. This week's trove of information covers the week from April 30th through May 6th, and has been translated by Andriasang.

Nintendo 3DS continues to absolutely dominate the Japanese gaming market. Nearly 20,000 more 3DS units sold during this week in comparison to last week, totaling more than Vita’s overall sales during either week in question. PlayStation Portable is steadily outselling the handheld that was supposed to eclipse it, while PlayStation 3 continues to be the strongest home console in Japan.

1.) Nintendo 3DS - 91,868
2.) PlayStation 3 - 23,478
3.) PlayStation Portable - 20,033
4.) Nintendo Wii - 15,789
5.) PlayStation Vita - 10,583
6.) Microsoft Xbox 360 - 1,420

While Nintendo is typically the big winner in software sales, this week represents a complete clobbering of its competition. Newer games like Mario Party 9 and Fire Emblem: Awakening join older, steady sellers like Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land to trounce just about every other company’s offerings. If anything, this week is the absolute epitome of Nintendo’s strength in its home market, and Sony’s comparative struggles.

Overall, the Nintendo 3DS accounted for a staggering 11 games on the top 20 list, with Wii grabbing four more. PlayStation Portable had three games chart while PlayStation 3 had two games. No PlayStation Vita games charted, though it's important to keep in mind that all Vita games are available digitally over the PSN. Media Create doesn't count those numbers.

1.) Mario Party 9 (Wii, 144,585 [297,468])
2.) Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City (PS3, 52,428 [304,953])
3.) Fire Emblem: Awakening (3DS, 42,347 [345,260])
4.) Super Mario 3D Land (3DS, 28,528 [1,563,527])
5.) Mario Kart 7 (3DS, 22,881 [1,695,305])
6.) Kid Icarus Uprising (3DS, 18,788 [261,883])
7.) Monster Hunter 3G (3DS, 16,496 [1,433,370])
8.) Mario and Sonic at the London Olympics (3DS, 13,810 [157,337])
9.) Conception: Please Give Birth to My Child! (PSP, 10,193 [40,039])
10.) Wii Sports Resort (with Wiimote) (Wii, 10,058 [935,555])
11.) Pro Baseball Spirits 2012 (PSP, 9,843 [128,409])
12.) Kingdom Hearts 3D (3DS, 9,532 [308,404])
13.) Pokemon + Nobunaga’s Ambition (3DS, 9,069 [318,067])
14.) Dynasty Warriors VS (3DS, 8,614 [24,192])
15.) Wii Party (Wii, 8,503 [2,345,476])
16.) Pro Baseball Spirits 2012 (PS3, 6,853 [152,934])
17.) Mario Kart Wii (Wii, 6,783 [3,561,199])
18.) 2nd Super Robot Wars Z Saisei Volume (PSP, 6,546 [328,432])
19.) Harvest Moon: Hajimari no Daichi (3DS, 6,408 [179,148])
20.) Go Vacation (Wii, 6,002 [271,087])
