Forums - Gaming - Honestly, why is Killzone 2 so highly hyped?

I guess my problem with this game is what sets it apart from other FPS games? I mean after that Resistance 2 info, how can anyone honestly say they are looking forward to this more? At least Resistance 2 has tons of unique stuff. This is just another FPS. It's biggest advantage was graphics, and after Crysis and CoD4 that's not an advantage anymore. Show me something that makes it unique.

@Naznatips

But in this day in age just as long as you have a gun and shoot bullets all fps' can be the same and can be over hyped success also.

Killzone 2 is heavily hyped because it is an exclusive game for the PS3 that stands no chance of becomming multiplatform ...

Right now the Wii fanboys are in a similar position to what the PS2 fanboys were in the previous generation in that they don't really need to overhype much of anything because (for the most part) sales speak for themself; the Wii is selling well, first party games are selling well, and most third party games of note have sold well.

XBox 360 fanboys are in an different position than most fanboys have ever been because, although the system sales are disapointing, game sales are very impressive and the system has the best library at the moment.

PS3 fanboys are desperate right now because sales of both hardware and software have been disapointing. Any game that is exclusive is now one of the most critical games in their minds, regardless of how likely it is to be critically acclaimed or sell well.

It is hyped MASSIVELY because of graphics. Many people think that graphics are the best part of as game, and Sony capitalized on this by releasing trailer after trailer and hyping up its graphics. And it is working.

Everyone also seems to think since there is a huge budget it means the developers are going to try harder. But where did the Heavenly Sword budget go? Graphics and audio. Killzone 2's graphics probably waste over half the budget. All this attention to graphics isn't healthy towards a game, but it is going to make this game sell. And I mean SELL. This game will be a hit. This will sell PS3's and that is just wrong. What has the world come to today? An average game can be a system seller? Graphics can make games mega blockbusters? This game is a prime example. The game is graphics first, gameplay second. Games shouldn't sell on looks, but they do anyway.

This game is hyped because Sony knows it will sell. They will do ANYTHING to make sure you know. They will lie and cheat to make sure this game sells. Killzone 2 is hyped because Sony knows it will sell.

Agreed... And add BioShock to the list.

You have to have more then just graphics in FPS now...  Graphics, sound, immersiveness, story, vast weaponery, varying environments, interesting gameplay elements, and multi-player are all requirements to get at least a 9 rating.  A lot has been made of the graphics but I would like to hear KZ2 talk about the other pieces that make a great game.

Resistance 2 looks great.  KZ2 looks like a repeat of KZ1...  Big hype, no delivery...

Its highly hyped cause its gonna be amazing. The first one was fun as hell even though it had its share of problems, but honestly which games don't have at least a couple problems to start with?

Take Killzone 1 and:

- Fix the Framerate problems
- Throw in 720p or 1080p graphics
- Make the A.I. better
- Fix the aiming system

and you have a friggin amazing Killzone 2.

Umm, let's see...

1. Killzone 2 has the highest budget of any videogame ever made, exceeding 40 million dollars.

2. Killzone 2 has a development team of over 100 different people.

3. Killzone 2 was played by IGN and they found it quite choice.

Even Gamespot loved it

Previews are always positive
