I don't know.... maybe because some people out there don't believe that a game being on an "evil" Sony console bars it from the possibility of actually being a good game? Look at UT3, I played it tonight, I've NEVER been good with FPS on computers because I couldn't get the WASD + Mouse motion right. But after playing UT3 tonight, I am convinced that FPS games can have both great graphics and great controls on the PS3. As far as this etherial "gameplay" concept that I hear all the Wii fanboys talk about, just because a game doesn't have you breathing into a microphone or flailing your arms around doesn't mean it isn't fun (and has good "gameplay").

Have you played any FPS's on Wii yet? No? Didn't think so.

On topic,

I think people are hyping this game because it looks fantastic and it's really one of the few really exceptional things people can point to and be proud of concerning their console of choice. Judging either way at this point in time is pre-mature, but their is no reason (not even the track record of this game) that says this game won't be amazing. If you judge something before you actually play it you'll be just as silly as "theshoe23".

Excuse Me? I have Metroid Prime 3 and I love it, absolutely love it. I've nearly beat the game.  Nice incorrect assumption.  By the way isn't calling me silly insulting a member?  Where are the ban cops about that?  Anyways people saying "all this game has going for it hype and graphics" are judging this game before playing it as well.

You want someone banned for calling you silly? And here I thought the Wii attracted the kiddies....

Anyways, since there is no gameplay demo avaialable the game does only have graphics and hype to support it. There are a few game reviewers who have played it andthen there are the trailers. Hype comes from the reviewers generally being positive about it (or so I recall) and well then there are the pretty graphics. If you can direct me to one game made by that developer that would live up to the hype of Killzone 2 I will gladly admit it has more just graphics an hype, but that game just does not exist to the best of my knowledge. It is being put on the same pedastal as MGS4 and FFXIII by some.

RFOM2, on the other hand, might just be the game all the die hard Sony fans want KZ2 to be.

Umm, let's see...

1. Killzone 2 has the highest budget of any videogame ever made, exceeding 40 million dollars.

2. Killzone 2 has a development team of over 100 different people.

3. Killzone 2 was played by IGN and they found it quite choice.

Your kidding right? Uncharted has more than payed for it's budget and will close over a million by the end of March.

Ratchet will break even too.

No, I'm not kidding. Uncharted and R&C were both hugely budgeted games and R&C commercials ran nearly constantly here in the US. Unfortunately, Sony has not released these figures, so we'll never know for sure,  but such games would likely have to sell a million to break even. There is still a chance (at 750k) Uncharted could do it, but with declining sales and no major holiday to prop it up -- that is unlikely. R&C has even further to go and sales of it are almost totally flat. Killzone 2 (from what I've read) has a much larger budget than either of those games -- yet will probably sell at a comparable rate, thus flopping.

im sorry but you dont know what you're talking about... neither of those games were as big a budget as you've been led to believe...

killone 2 is hyped because

  1. Sony hypes it.
  2. people like to point out that sony hypes it
  3. people like to disprove anything on it, flaws etc...
  4. Ps3 gamers hype it because of the graphics
  5. and people know if the gameplay can match the graphics that it will be a good game

Honestly the second point worries me. I have watched what happens when you give mediocre game studios way too many people to work with. Disaster can strike very very easily.

As many have mentioned, the hype is due to Sony saying it will be well-worth your PS3 purchase and the trailer that was shown at the E3 conference.

I'm surprised no one mention this, though. GG may have improved all the poorer qualities that were noticeable in the first Killzone game, fine tuning everything to balance it out. The animations and graphics were upgraded, but they may have just improved what the first game lacked in performance. If the hype of the trailer was anything, I do think that Killzone 2 may be vastly improved. After all, the PS2 is dated at the time due to what's available on the PS3 (engine resources and physics).

From what we've seen in the demo, many of the problems with KZ1 have already been ironed out (bad physics, loads of graphical glitches), and the only problems we don't know if they've rectified yet are the spotty AI and and linear/repetitive level design from the original. However, the level in the demo was by no means linear, and KZ: Liberation is a testament to their improvement of AI, and considering their imbitious online plans (hell, even KZ1's online was pretty ambitious for a ps2 game), I have high hopes that this game will turn out well, in and of itself.
