I understand, but whatever can boost the sales, especially in Japan, is welcome in the formula for success.

LMAO xD I originally put 1 million sales for Japan, but thought that was too optimistic, so took out the 1 to replace it with 800K, only to leave in the million xD

Wow, you're a tough cookie.
Brawl sold 2.37M in Japan, Smash 64 sold 1.97M. I think with the help of FF VII IPs they can boost their Japan sales to 1.50M with proper branding and labelling. Now add to that the western appeal of these franchises, and the userbase of their respective games, and you have something that can not only attract the traditional Sony audience in the West, but a new casual audience worldwide, as well as a Square fanbase in Japan.
If it doesn't work, it at least helps bump the meter up by 1Mil imho.
I just checked. Just two games have sold 1mill in Japan. (RE5 & FFXIII)
Also, I don't see any new IPs at all that have cracked 500k.
The PS3 just isn't big enough in Japan for a title like this to do so much there.
If everything goes perfectly, I say it could do 500k there. And that's being very optimistic. It's not doing 1m. It's just not happening.

Final Fantasy Dissidia had FF VII characters and didn't sell anywhere close to 1.5m in Japan, so it's highly unlikely that a fighting game with far less known characters than the FF franchise would manage to get to that mark. |
I think the Final Fantasy characters will only give visibility, but the Smash genre has already proven itself in Japan. If and when they'll see FF characters, the title will get visibility, then by word of mouth I am certain it will spread. It's basically Smash but with its own twist. It should sell well, the Japanese seemed to like it if 3M is any indicator
. And the holidays always help, worldwide.
There is a good chance of it. But a lot of Sony's characters cater to older audiences, so it might limit the appeal a little. The question will surely come down to the game play and how well they market the game.
We seem to go through this with every PS3 release. Be it Little Big Planet, Killzone 3, Mod Nation Racers, etc. These lofty expectations are set by Sony fans. Will be fun to see how this turns out. Bookmarking this page.

Dissidia was one of the most downloaded games, downloaded over 5.2 million times. Surely if piracy wasn't so horrible on the PSP it would of gotten a good chunk of those sales.
It's a shame really.

Hey, you may be right. Because what do I know? After LittleBigPlanet could piggyback on the success of previous 2D platformers in Japan, your expectations aren't that unrealistic. |
Nah, LBP wasn't a clone, PABR is, with its own twist. The market is secured.
