This means that if we trust the VGChartz total numbers for Mario (which are probably slightly lacking), then roughly 1 out of 8 games sold on Nintendo's machines have "Mario" in the title. (500 million out of 4 billion).
That seems to stay fairly constant for all their systems, with 1 out of 8 for the Wii and 1 out of 10 for the DS, to name a few. The 3DS is so far a pretty hefty exception, with 1 out of 4 so far, although that's probably going to drop with time.
