I'm super interested to see the gameplay and character list.

Cause so far I'm not sold on this at all, to me Sony just doesn't have a strong enough stable of "fun" characters to play in a fighting game as.

Guys from Killzone, Uncharted, and Infamous just wont' be as rediculous and over the top as Nintendo's Smash Bros games.

Though that being said maybe thats not the kind of gameplay Sony is looking for at all, maybe it'll be a hardcore fighter like Tekken, most of their characters would fit better in that kind of a fighter than a "party" fighter.

Perhaps your statement should be "I just realized that really only Nintendo has a long line of memorable characters"

I dont care enough to buy the games but I always make a point to find out a little about each PS3 exclusive game. I find out even more if the game was a critical/commercial success. 

But alas, your last statement sums up my thoughts on the matter exactly. 

while you have a point i think you can charaterize them to be more smash bros-ish if that's what sony wants to do.  i mean, is solid snake any less over the top then the guys from killzone?  i'd say no but it still worked in brawl.

a hard core fighter like tekken would be a bad idea imo...there are plenty of those on playstation already.  a brawl style game at least expands on sony's offerings.  (forgeting about rag doll kung fu of course)

if they do go the Smash Brothers Route...I wanna see hectic 7-player games. the PS3 can handle 7 controllers at a time, and that'd certainly be a selling point since Smash Brothers can only do 4. I mean, realistically, it's not likely to compare when you consider Nintendo is known for its quality games, and this new developer is untested.

Better have Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, and Cole from inFamous. those three would likely be the most interesting if you ask me. That said, the stable can't possibly match Smash Brothers Brawl's 35 or something. I dunno. I WANT to like it, but like anything with hype, I don't expect much until it comes out.

Well it's mixture of not caring, but also the small fraction that ring a bell are most likely ones from franchises with frequent enough iterations. There hasn't been a new Medievil game outside of the PSP remake in years and same goes for a good portion of those characters. Doesn't mean they're bad or unmemorable, they just haven't been in action since the PS1, or PS2, or were just from one off games. I can assure you not many individuals would have a clue who Blinx the timesweeper or Voodoo Vince are.

This is also how Nintendo builds its brand power, it keeps reminding people of its IPs through frequent new iterations, with less emphasis on the creation of new IPs but new IP creation isn't necessarily non-existant.

waiting for gameplay before I get hyped...hopefully Sony can use 3rd party exclusive characters!!!

Needs Dante and Ryu (Ninija Gaiden) and of course a Tekken character (anyone will do except for the sumo wrestler he's mostly forgetable sorry). Its all so time for Sony to call Ed Boon for payback of having Kratos in the lastest MK game. I would pick sub-zero or scorpion.
